cre618
There's a free download of "Say Please" up at www.monstersoffolk.com. Thanks for that!
brianjeremy
That's pretty decent. I can't wait for the album.
Killer Whales
downhill is a relative term in this case... in that just based on my enjoyment level of their albums post At Dawn has nearly decreased with every release. sure they're still a great band, and like you said, Evil Urges is mostly just bad by their own standards. like, Pfork score wise, it's probably like: At Dawn: 9.4It Still Moves: 8.8Z: 8.7Tennessee Fire: 8.3Evil Urges: 7.2 so not terrible, but a far cry from their best stuff for me too. i just would really love for a new MMJ album with only 1-2 songs i don't like (ie: like on It Still Moves & Z), or even better, that i like every song (see At Dawn) This is fairly accurate for me too, although I would rank Tennessee Fire as the lowest with around a 7. At Dawn probably is their masterpiece, although I still think they could've cut Honest Man. That track always kind of annoyed me, and X-Mas Curtain would've worked fine as the transition between the slow set of songs before it to the more epic second half of the album
TCP
Good song, better than I expected. I am officially excited.
knotgreen
The song seems VERY Traveling Wilburys to me... which certainly isn't a bad thing, merely an observation.

deron11
there's 4-5 great songs on Evil Urges, but it's far and away their worst album. honestly the band has been sliding slowly downhill since At Dawn. which is unfortunate because they're still pretty amazing live Since "At Dawn?" Are you NUTS!!! MMJ have gone nowhere but UP since At Dawn. I think Evil Urges to be their best album. A close one, with It Still Moves, which is a classic. Again. You Sir, are nuts. RainDogToo
Good song, better than I expected. I am officially excited. Me too! Also, on a side note... anyone give any thought to making the shirt they give you when subscribing to the mailing list?

A close one, with It Still Moves, which is a classic. Again. You Sir, are nuts. I agree with solace, their output has been going downhill since then. I dunno. I have listened to Z and Evil Urges less than any of their other albums. Evil Urges being one of the worst albums by a band that I admire. I think MMJ have it in them to make a great album but they seem to want to change so much that they have lost focus. I dunno, they just aren't the same.
BassMan77
I have to disagree on the MMJ talk. I think Z is their best record, and for me Tennessee Fire would be the worst. Anyway, from the one song out there, I'm looking forward to the Monsters of Folk.

aricandover
hefty ticket prices for the chicago show, $33-$48.
tangara
I actually thought it would be more. I'm really surprised it's at the Auditorium- that place is huge. I'll be shocked if they sell it out. I'll be in Philly at the Pearl Jam shows at the Spectrum that week. Ah well. I hope MoF are added to ACL.

Shakespeare In The Alley
Those prices aren't really that high at all. All four guys in this group are known and respected on their own, so it's no surprise that they play decent sized venues, with more expensive tickets.
aricandover
Those prices aren't really that high at all. maybe if you're used to seeing U2, Coldplay, and other bullshit like that as your main concert going experience they're not. but for these guys, that's a lot of fucking loot. I've seen the four them together before, and it cost less than 2x the $48 they want for good seats.

I've seen the four them together before, and it cost less than 2x the $48 they want for good seats.Well, U2/Coldplay/etc are nowhere near my main concert experience. The most expensive non-festival tickets I've ever bought were $40 for Radiohead, Wilco and Tenacious D tickets, and those were all decent (not the worst, not the best) seats. Separate concerts, of course... These MoF tickets are a bit more expensive than the average indie band, but each guy in this thing has a fair amount of credibility and a large number of fans that will come see them. I just don't think $48 for the best seats is that bad, and I'm a college student with no real income at all. What's the average capacity for these venues?
aricandover
the auditorium theatre in chicago is somewhere between 3000-4000.
imdwalrus
Totally unnecessary to charge this amount of money, especially when only $1/tkt is going to the local charity.

I'm still reeling from the debacle that was The Thorns and being pissed about seeing them live. If I could only get that time and money back....
