Ghost of Electricity
Only twice unfortunately. The first was on July 15 1995 at the Sunshine music festival in Crown Point, Indiana. It was a truly unfortunate choice of name for the festival as the clouds lurked threateningly overhead for all of the Wilco set. This was pre- BT but Jay had joined the band. The set list was A.M. and UT material. Completing the alt-country goodness of that offering was to be the following act, The Jayhawks. They were at their height, just after Tomorrow the Green Grass but before Mark Olson had left. Those menacing clouds weren't so cooperative, though, and opened up a few songs into their set. At first they played through it, Mark inviting Victoria on stage to play some guitar (I don't think it was actually for the song "Miss Williams' Guitar," but i could be wrong). But the rain got torrential and some serious safety issues developed with the electricity, so they had to can it not halfway through the set. The second was 9 years later, almost to the day, at another festival: Rheinkultur Festival near Cologne, Germany (July 3, 2004. This was just after AGIB, and this time another guitarist had just been added to the lineup. This time too, there were technical problems and Jeff kept complaining about some buzzing sound coming through the monitors which he said wasn't even in key. They only played 9 songs, mostly from AGIB.

remphish1
Can I hear more about this? I still kick myself for missing this show, practically in my backyard. Well Wilco was not well receieved. I had a lawn area ticket and people were yelling for me to sit down. So I moved downowards the seats. In the seated section out of a few thousand maybe 5 were standing up. They played a great set though. I specifically remember Jeff yelling the Nothings with a disdained look at the crowd for their lack of enthusiasm. Feed of Man smoked at that show too! Anyhoo after Wilco was over I went over to the tour bus area. They were setting up for Natalie Merchant which I had no interest in seeing. At the tour bus area there was no secuirty. After the show maybe 4 or 5 people were hangin with the band ( I proceeded to get my Summerteeth cd signed by the band and a picture with Jeff) . Back in the day Jeff would tow his car with the tour bus so he parked in the lot. After we were done talking with the band we left the area where the band was. As we were walking out Jeff was not far behind. As soon as we got to the lot he says "I have no idea where I parked?!" I helped for a little bit and he found his car and drove off. He was maybe parked 50 ft away from where he was lost. It was a funny moment!

Sweet jesurs I am spoiled seeing Jeff and the fellas here in Chicago. That being said, Red Rocks is the best full band performance I have seen the Residency shows are just too tough to distinguish from one another, best Tweedy show is either 3-5-05 or the 10-30-06 show at the Pabst is an instant classic as well. The benefit shows always pack a punch and have plenty of rarities to go around, but it is kinda unfortunate that no recordings have shown up for those shows from the past couple years. I can always hold onto hope for one day though... some great performances at the Vic.

Unfortunately, I moved out of the immediate vicinity of NYC for four years from 1997-2001 so it limited my ability to see them. Work and graduate school took up a lot of time. Also, that nearly three year hiatus from playing in New York from NYE 2004-June 2007 leaves a big gap between shows for me. That said, I've seen the band in every incarnation and I have so many great memories of these shows. It's amazing what a huge part of my life and youth Wilco is. I'm thankful that I found them early on and was old enough to be going to shows on a regular basis. Seeing two shows last week with some of my oldest friends got me thinking about all these things. Great topic for a thread.
