Wendy
I thought everything he said was funny. Another funny thing was the Twitter crawl below the screen in which one Twitter user said "all this time I thought Wilco was British." And two people said "who is this band, I like them." As for "murdering" Hoodoo Voodoo, I blame the camera-people and/or on-the-fly video editing people for not following along too well with the playful guitar duel. Part of the time they focused on Jeff who wasn't dueling, just looking both ways and smiling at Pat and Nels. So it was awkward visually. But I don't recall Wilco botching the song. Oh well. So for Rob and Wilcobase, I think this was it. Did I miss anything? Bull Black NovaImpossible GermanyHate It HereHeavy Metal DrummerCasino QueenHoodoo Voodoo

Three dollars and 63 cents
I never expect them (or any band, for that matter) to sound top-notch in a festival-type setting, where it's not completely their own setup. On the whole, though, I thought this was a solid performance--energetic, a good set list, and a performance that I think would win over new fans. I was surprised by a lot of the song choices; I would've expected W(TS) instead of Bull Black Nova, for instance. Hoodoo Voodoo didn't have as much showmanship between Nels and Pat during their duel, but I wouldn't expect them to do that in front of a crowd that wasn't there just for them. I was also really impressed by the audio and video quality of the webcast. The picture quality was almost as good as TV for most of it. Also, somebody really needs to steal Nels's plaid shirt. It's too "dad rock"
calvino
Did John forget to pack his plaid shirt? I thought the Wilson comment was fine. I was kinda hoping that he would say something about the whole redneck thing. It's nice to see that Tweedy still has the "rock and roll" attitude to start some shit. He did say "with all due respect"...
nodep5
Not about Wilco, but about Farm Aid. Neil's set was very nice. I have been in a Neil funk in the last year with the box set being odd and his last album being trash. This reinspired me. Top notch!

Happiechick
What did Jeff say about Gretchen Wilson?Don't quote me, but it was something like, "With all due respect to Gretchen Wilson, not everyone here is a redneck." He went on to say more, which I thought was not only fine, but necessary. It was along the lines of not lumping all people at Farm Aid into the redneck category. GW kept doing shout outs to rednecks in the crowd as if her audience was mostly rednecks. I grew up on a Farm, I am not a redneck, and was happy when Jeff appropriately called her out on it. JessieOK
I thought it was awesome when Jeff countered GW's redneck remarks! Seriously, I think there were way more people there to see Dave Matthews than Gretchen Wilson and I wouldn't really classify DMB fans as rednecks. I screamed pretty loudly at Jeff's comment to be sure...

calvino
I guess she does not have very many fans here. Gretchen Wilson I never heard about this: Lawsuit On July 31, 2008, the Black Crowes filed a lawsuit against Wilson for copyright violation, alleging that her song "Work Hard, Play Harder" copied the Crowes song "Jealous Again". Also included in the suit were her label Sony BMG, her publishing company, and the cable network TNT, which has been using the song in commercials. [4] There is no resolution at present; however, Crowes manager Pete Angelus has stated that he expects a quick resolution without litigation. [5] I am not familiar with "Work Hard, Play Harder". But isn't "Jealous Again" kinda copied off any Stones song...

Dude
Anyway, nice to see Wilco playing in front of Jason Mraz. Thank you Neil and Willie? Jason Mraz is the Wonder bread of music. That 'I'm Yours' song is horribly craptastic, it makes Jack Johnson seem hardcore and edgy.

Sweet Papa Crimbo
I really admire that Willie, Neil and John have not abondoned the fight to keep family farm issues in the public eye; but the concert has become a bit of a parody. Unknown bands, whisky guzzling trailer trash chick, earnest indie rockers and aging/aged music stars. The music isn't the point...it's the raising of awareness of the issue (factory farms and corporations undercutting the family farmer). But watching Neil onstage with Willie was PAINFUL. And Gretchen Wilson...sweet fancy Moses! This issue should see the involvement of more high profile artists...and it is a shame that this issue is no longer 'sexy'. I really respect the stand that these artists have taken (Wilco played Farmaid instead of heading to the ACL festival this year).

Allspread
I guess she does not have very many fans here. Gretchen Wilson Never heard of her. But after reading the intro to her Wikipedia entry: Gretchen Frances Wilson (born June 26, 1973 in Pocahontas, Illinois) is an American country music artist. She made her debut in 2004 with the Grammy Award-winning single "Redneck Woman," a number-one hit on the Billboard country charts. I'm sure I won't be buying her album, either. nodep5
I think this is an interesting issue. I grew up within 9 miles of Pocahantas Il and within 35 miles of Belleville. So I think I know what is typical for that area and I think we all know that Mrs. Wilson is likely marketing an image to a certain degree. She is a Nashville recording artist afterall. Hell though, maybe Mr. Tweedy markets an image also (who am I to judge). My original point earlier in the thread about being disappointed with Tweedy picking at her was not about whether he was speaking some truth and more about whether it was needed to be said at all. Tweedy carries more weight and crediblity in his guitar pick that Gretchen Wilson will ever carry. He's the top dog in this one. It just seemed like picking off an easy target. All that being said, I also thought Tweedy was far more engaging when he appeared to have a chip on his shoulder. Early Wilco tours when he was trying to get a crowd to pay attention or whatever, that was intense stuff. So maybe this is good theater, but I think it could have been left unsaid.
