uncool2pillow
That was one hell of a play by Hanley Ramirez. If I'm not mistaken, I believe I saw that he's refusing to apologize. He ought to be cut immediately.
Beltmann
Trevor Hoffman makes me cry. A lot. Might Rollie Fingers consider a comeback?
Smokestack Joe
i hear you beltman. i was listening in my car and when Rolen came up i predicted the game-tying homer. It has become too easy to predict those outcomes. too bad for hoffmann. he may be done. closers shouldnt be 42 years old......... macha is terrible for not taking him out after walking the guy after the homer but he seems afraid to 'disrespect' a future hall of famer. please, it is about winning. i dont care who you are, that is why i elect Freddy Gonzalez, manager of the Marlins, manager of the week for sitting Hanley Ramirez, despite his stardom. The High Heat
If I'm not mistaken, I believe I saw that he's refusing to apologize. He ought to be cut immediately. He was benched today for not addressing his teammates. He criticized Gonzalez, but also admitted that wasn't mentally prepared to play before he took a hard foul ball to the shin. You don't cut talent like Hanley just like that. He might get fined, suspended or possibly traded. He ain't no giveaway.

MattZ
very convenient for bobbob to post in here when his Marlins sweep my Mets and yet be silent when his star player gets benched for being a general tool and then runs his mouth like an ass. Bobbob, I demand a post from you on this!

bjorn_skurj
Things the Mets should do:1. Fire Omar and Manuel. NOW. 2. Apologize to Johan Santana for selling him a bill of goods when signing him in 2008, and offer to trade him if he likes. It's a crime that he pitches as well as he does and more often than not comes out with an L or a no decision.3. Trade David Wright. Citi Field is messing with his head. His chances of succeeding there grow dimmer with each plate appearance. Dude looks LOST up there a lot of the time.4. Accept that it is time to rebuild. Keep Reyes; everybody else is subject to going.5. Concentrate on pitching, defense and dudes who can bunt and execute the hit and run. The Mets now play in a deadball kind of a park, so you have to make them a deadball kind of a team.

I just don't follow National League, esp. out east so I didn't know what a talent the guy is. Sounds like he is beginning to act a little contrite now. I suppose the Marlins may act like all is well to up his trade value for later.

Bobbob, I demand a post from you on this! hanley was being an ass. Absolutely, no question. I was on Team Fredi for this one. I've known for a while that Hanley is proof that your best player isn't necessarily the face of your franchise. The guy is barely likeable, but he's also a top 5 talent in the game so it's ok. He's always been a guy who has been prone to taking plays off. I yelled at him last Thursday when we beat the mets ( ) because he very rarely busts down the line on grounder. It's frustrating as all hell. Absolutely in the wrong here, Fredi Gonzalez handled this perfectly. I think it's becomig more and more clear that Dan Uggla and Josh Johnson are the "faces" of this franchise. All that being said, Hanley's not going anywhere. That's way to good of a contract for him to go anywhere. Our owner talks all of the time about him being the first Marlin Hall of Famer.

bobbob1313
Ozzie Guillen basically copped to having one of his pitchers hit a Marlin today. Fine forthcoming? Apparently Brett Carroll missed a sign and thought he was supposed to be running with a 7-0 lead. He actually thought it was a hit and run, as he went to jog back to the base after he slid before realizing it wasn't fouled off. I guess we broke an unwritten rule.
The High Heat
Jose Lima, RIP at 37. The world of baseball as we know it just got a lot less colorful. Dammit. This is a shame. He was still pitching as late last year in the independents. He had a great year in '99. If I remember right he had more wins than walks that season.

bjorn_skurj
As Mets fans, we were sort of misled about how good Frankie Rodriguez really is, but the dude came up huge the last two nights. He is the anti-Luis Castillo.
Calexico
As Mets fans, we were sort of misled about how good Frankie Rodriguez really is, but the dude came up huge the last two nights. He is the anti-Luis Castillo. 2 out of 3 against the Yanks is good but really it has been a disappointing season so far. Phillies up next as well. Too late for Manuel to save his job? Trade Wright as well? Pity but you may be right about him.

Beltmann
Gallardo and Santana had a classic pitcher's duel tonight in Milwaukee. Santana went 8 shutout innings, while Gallardo went 9 shutout innings. Game's still not over... EDIT: Hart hits 2-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth. Brewers win, in movie-script fashion.
