Analogman
They need some more photos of Betty. When I was there back in the 1990s, there were NO PHOTOGRAPHS signs all over the place. I guess whoever took those got away with it due to the fact they were working for a news channel.
worldrecordplayer
Speaking of the Nash Strat, Europe '72: Jahrhundert Halle, Frankfurt, West Germany is streaming at dead.net. 100 Year Hall has always been one of my favorite GD releases. Outstanding. Today I bought the entire 4 disc show from the Europe '72 releases based on the Hidden Track piece on this. The writer said that the sonic quality of the new release just blows away the sound of 100 Year Hall. He sold me.

HungryHippo
Did anyone get around to buying the All The Years Combine DVD set? I'm assuming most die-hard fans own the individual releases and do not need it, but for GD video newbs like myself, it's a great buy. It seems as though every DVD the band has released is now out of print and are going for at least $20 each in used condition. $99 for 14 DVDs is a steal.
Vacant Horizon
19 October 1974 Eyes of the World....take a bow Jerry... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX3Tdlmtbzg&feature=related was there ever an official name for that jam at the end of Eyes 73-76. they do it in the dead movie as well as on vault I. we used to call it the 9 jam (a la the eleven). i love it! that G#m to Emaj7 back and forth then the riff...etc.

I am hoping they release So Far separately at some point - which I am sure they will. I don' think I ever have seen Backstage pass, either. It is a nice price for them all. winterland121072
I used to call it on my tapes, "Stronger Than Dirt" (without the "milking the turkey ending) - just Stronger Than Dirt. But, with time that seemed to fade, and I believe it now is just referred to as Eyes of the World. Great jam...That is a great example of the Dead "rocking" in Grateful Dead styled "rocking." Perhaps the reason it is so hard to provide an example of hte Dead "rocking" for a non-Deadhead to appreciate is because the Dead were so unique to themselves. They really didn't "rock" in the traditional mainstream sense. They created their own flavor of "rock." This dilemma was a problem for mainstream music journalists. They always wanted to place the Dead into a category but couldn't.
Analogman
I'm listening to 2/13/1970 and reading some stuff at Dead Essays. There is quite a long article there about Bob and Pigpen's dismissal from the band.
HungryHippo
Thanks for that link, Analogman. Reading about the "firing" in such great detail was nice. Kind of makes you wonder where the band would have ended up had Pigpen and Weir never rejoined. It is especially ironic how short-lived the band's psychedilc experimentation was. By 1970, they had returned to a more bluesy, folksy sound. In other GD news, Dave's Picks vol. 2 just shipped out. I skipped out on Vol. 1 (never a huge fan of the Mosque show) but couldn't pass up a Wall of Sound gig. I think this may be the best China>Rider I have yet to hear. The Weather Report Suites from this era are especially nice.
