All of your posts about the TEA party is that they are bunch of racists. I never said they weren't misinformed, I am saying calling them racists is wrong.

Again, there is a segment in that culture that is racists and their motivation is because of the color of Obama's skin. But to discount a movement because of a segment and not looking at the whole movement is is not wise.

How did I become a defender of a movement I disagree with?

good this thread has turned into name calling. Congratulations.

Hey so what are people thoughts on the so called "War on Women." I think Stewart hit the nail on the head (per usual) last night.

Also thoughts about The Motor City Madman's recent comments? These comments are terrible and if anything Romney needs to publicly come out against what Ted has said. Of course he won't, prolly cause Ted's fans are TEA partiers and Romney won't want to piss off that segment. But right Bleed the TEA party has no influence in the national race.

I'll reiterate what I've said in the past...I think it's a waste of time for politicians to spend their time "publicly com[ing] out" against remarks made by supporters, etc. Who cares? And we'll continue to disagree on the amount of influence the tea party has on the national race. You say a lot, I say a little.

I am surprised on how we can see something so differently. So a politician does not have the responsibility to distant him or herself from comments made by a well known supporter. In order to show that he or she doesn't hold the same views as the supporter.

Should have the democratic party have been so quick to distance themselves from Hilary Rosen? Remember Rosen was not acting in any official capacity for the Democratic party when she made those comments.

And I am not saying a politician needs get the full views of all of his supporters and list where they agree and disagree. But there comes a time when the profile of the person and the nature of the comments warrant some comment.

No. Makes no difference. Plus, she was right.

can someone post the left wing equivalent of the NUGE at the NRA rally?? thanks

I can't, Maher said some stuff in recent memory but nothing quite this bad. The Dixie Chicks got slammed by the right for saying they were ashamed that the president [GWB] was from Texas.

It comes down to this, there has been a lack of respect for this President on the right. They have consistently called him anti-american, socialist, etc. Remember he won with 53% of the vote, he is the President, regardless of your opinion of the President you don't say things like that. I hated GWB, I thought his policies were bad for the Country, but I never thought he was anti-american. His policies differed from mine and we had different visions for the country. There is just a lack of respect and that is terrible.

It's a sad day when we're worried about what the Motor City Madman is saying about the current state of politics. If I want some advice on how to make deer jerky, I might turn to the Nuge.

Everything is a sideshow shitshow.

I'd love a return to the days of civility.

Winston, you took the words out of my mouth. The guy is an idiot. I'd be willing to bet there aren't many people associated with the NRA that agree with what he's said here. When I heard the story of him meeting Hendrix and asking him why he was smoking a joint, I knew Ted was a douche. Not to mention I only like 2 or 3 of his songs! If anything the head of the NRA should come out and say, "shut the hell up!"

When was that?

I am not blaming today's media in the least - but in today's time there is so many news sources, so we can see/hear/read all about this stupid stuff.

The stupid stuff has always been around - I am sure there was a Ted Nugent character in politics in the 1800's, but only the ones who could actually read or had access to the tabloid press/yellow journalism of its day, knew of the character.

At least they don't dual anymore in Washington, DC.

I think it can be traced back to when Kennedy officially killed hats. It all hinges on if guys started wearing hats again...

:lol Probably so - I think you are from Chicago --- Neil Steinberg is always writing about hats...I think he would agree with you.

He even wrote a book about it - haven't gotten around to read it yet, though.

It's all just noise...and with 24-hour "news" networks, the noise is even louder and harder to ignore. Having to react to or condemn every single idiot who says something stupid is pointless and only adds to the background noise that clouds any chance for real debate or discussion. But politics have been nasty since the election of 1800.

Here is the thing, yes Ted is an idiot, yes his opinion shouldn't matter, but our pop culture obsessed society gives celebration a platform to get their beliefs out there. There is a segment of people who follow these people and eat up every word, which is scary has hell. I am not saying that the Nuge is the end all be all of politics, but what he said is getting national coverage. If I said it no one would care. That is why there has to be some accountability for a politician to denounce when someone who says things like the Nuge said.

Why do you think Organizations have celebrities testify in front of congress? It brings in the news cameras. When a famous person says something for/against a candidate it makes news.

So from what I can gather most people believe that no matter the person, no matter the comment, no matter the context, a politician does not need to comment on anything someone else says.

See I think politicians are glad there are people out there who say outlandish stuff be it Maher, Nuge, Rush, Schultz, etc. Who act as their proxy and can say stuff to segments of their base and not have to say it themselves.

I agree with Bleedorange - it's a waste of time.

Where would you draw the line of when it's appropriate to denunciate someone? If you start making it your business to distance yourself from people that aren't affiliated with you, then it becomes a misstep when you denounce some but not others.

I'm just as "scared" of people who eat up the Nuge's screed as I am of people who keep up with the Kardashians. Our country is littered with idiots. But I still love this country. I'm not going to move elsewhere, because here I can enjoy more freedom than anywhere else in the world, even if Sparky tells me my freedoms are continually being trampled.

i think the NUGE was a keynote speaker at the largest lobbying group in the US so its a bit different than the kardashians but no less sensational.

Bill Maher and Ed Schultz dont say anything that comes close to the shit Rush and Glen and Co say. to equate them is the more insane than what they say IMO

Man, I wore out Double live Gonzo when I was about 13. Had no idea at the time Nuge was such a complete Dick back then. Although apparently my parents knew since they yelled at me to turn it down constantly.
