Atticus
I don't mean that the music isn't any good--although sometimes the music is bad also. I'm talking about records that just sound shitty. for example: every studio album by the Grateful Dead, except maybe the one with the song that makes everyone so angry. even American Beauty and Workingman's Dead have pretty lackluster production and mixing. also: those Pavement guys. jff
The Hentchmen - Campus Party. The shitty sound quality sounds good on their 45s, but doesn't work for a full length.
Sir Stewart
Nothing was more disappointing ever than the production on The Beatles' Free As A Bird.
Mr. Heartbreak
Brian Eno's Here Come the Warm Jets and Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy.Love those albums, but damn if the records and CD versions sound pretty crappy.
choo-choo-charlie
Nothing was more disappointing ever than the production on The Beatles' Free As A Bird. That, and "Real Love." Thanks a lot, Jeff Lynne.

ripthisjoint908
The Velvet Underground's self titled. Quality wise it just sounds like basement demo's my friends and I recorded when we were 12. I do love that album though.
Moss
Nothing was more disappointing ever than the production on The Beatles' Free As A Bird. Yeah, how did that get so screwed up.
uncool2pillow
The SST Hüsker Dü records -- up through Flip Your Wig.Yep, and the WB one aren't much better. It's a shame because it's such fantastic music. Not sure what remastering could accomplish, but it will never happen.

froggie
big fan of Dylan, but the original versions of New Morning and Saved were crap before the remasters. ........ come to think, Saved isnt a good album, full stop

Atticus
I have no problem with that. I was thinking more of Slanted & Enchanted.
lamradio
Not trying to offend anybody but.....YHF, Summerteeth, Being There Strongly disagree with YHF (for me the production is like a warm blanket), I can see your point on ST (a little over compressed) but the production has never bothered me, and definitely Being There.. WAY too trebly and thin, almost ruins the album for me.. But its still my top 1 or 2 favorite Wilco record. Now Sky Blue Sky on the other hand, horrible. Atticus once described it perfectly (and I paraphrase) "it sounds like they lined up the amps in front of a wall of tampons and hit record".

Atticus
Atticus once described it perfectly (and I paraphrase) "it sounds like they lined up the amps in front of a wall of tampons and hit record". Listen to "company in my back" and then anything off SBS, and tell me the drum tone on SBS isn't annoying. It's like the mics were shoved in tampons.
tinnitus photography
Most of GBV's records.ironically, their 'big budget' record (Do The Collapse), with Ric Ocasek at the desk, is one of their worst.
Sir Stewart
I threw on the LP of The Whole Love last night and it was like my ears were being molested. So goddamned noisy.
