  1. I was at last night’s show and while I agree that the political debate went on too long and got uncomfortable I applaud Jeff for how he handled it and doing it in an honest way. Seriously. I don’t get why people would go to a show and try to disrupt it. Anyway I thought he got the vibe back on track with his be kind speech and the “Jesus, etc.” performance.
  2. I really liked their cover of R.E.M.'s "Walk Unafraid," one of my favorite latter-day deep tracks from the band. There's a video of them performing the song with Peter Buck too.
  3. What an amazing night! As usual some funny banter from Jeff and a great selection of songs. Both nights were great with Thursday feeling more off-the-cuff while Friday was more focused and a stronger performance overall. It was nice to see Jeff watching his sons play and beaming with pride.
  4. More tickets just put on sale for the Largo shows. Just got a Thursday night ticket so will be seeing him both nights!
  5. I would love to see a new Wilco album in 2018 but judging by the Tweedy/Stirrat recent interview on the Celebration Rock podcast that doesn't seem likely.
  6. Agreed! That's one of my favorites from that album. And after listening to Songs of Experience a couple times I'm enjoying it so far. It's a solid late-period with some songs like "The Showman" and "Red Flag Day" that I'm really enjoying.
  7. I'm still waiting to get my copy that's supposed to come with my purchase of tickets on their upcoming tour but I heard the snippets played on the "U Talkin' U2 to me" podcast and like what I've heard.
  8. Yeah, Stipe and 10,000 Maniacs did a cool version of "To Sir With Love," which I have as a b-side to a CD single. I also enjoyed the Automatic Baby performance of "One" at the inauguration featuring him, Mike Mills, Larry Mullen, Jr. and Adam Clayton.
  9. I like "Ignoreland." While it's not my favorite song on the album, It adds a nice bit of energy to the second half of the album and I found the vitriol directed towards the Reagan/Bush years a welcome release (and so much more resonant again in the Trump era.)
  10. Yeah, if I'd probably put Pageant as my second favorite. Love "Fall on Me" and "Cuyahoga." Unlike some fans I don't really separate R.E.M. by time periods because I'd include albums from both the IRS and WB years in my top five.
  11. I got into REM with Document and immediately plunged into their back catalog with Lifes Rich Pageant and the rest immediately afterwards. But Automatic remains my favorite album of theirs. Even though it's pegged as a dark album it does have lighter moments like "Man on the Man" and "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" and it's got gorgeous songs like "Nightswimming" and "Find the River." "Sweetness Follows" is my favorite though. The album came out a year or so after my mother passed away from cancer and that song in particular meant a lot to me through some difficult times.
  12. Here's a description from the Steve Hoffman Music Forum: This album features a Deluxe Boxset 5-CD and a Deluxe 4-LP set consisting of the original album with 15 previously released demos, recordings and Never heard songs, Live At The Troubadour '96 + Live a KCRW '96. In addition, the deluxe editions contain liners from music critic Steve Hyden and the original single Outta site (Outta Mind). If this is accurate, sounds pretty cool!
  13. Nice list. I love "We All Go Back to Where We Belong." It's the perfect elegiac song to serve as the band's last. As for the Slicing Up Eyeballs list, I took part in it and was glad to see that my favorite song "Fall on Me" made number one.
  14. It appears that the band will add "A Sort of Homecoming" occasionally to the set. I saw them at Santa Clara and both Rose Bowl shows and they played it in Santa Clara and the first Rose Bowl show. It looks like they added it back to the set this week for the second Chicago show.
  15. A long entertaining conversation with Steve Gorman in the latest Celebration Rock podcast. http://uproxx.com/music/celebration-rock-podcast-steve-gorman-the-black-crowes/
  16. Thanks. Too bad that Dan Bejar can't join them. I guess it's hard to get them all on the same schedule.
  17. I hope they make clear whether Neko Case will be joining the tour. Last time I saw them she wasn't there for that part of the tour. While I understand she's got limited availability, I prefer the band when she's there.
  18. While 2016 sucked in many ways, it was still a decent year for shows and I went to a fair amount this year. My favorites: Jenny Lewis at the Immanuel Baptist Church in LA in January for the 10th anniversary "Rabbit Fur Coat" tour. Smashing Pumpkins at the Ace Hotel in LA in March. Billy Corgan was in a rare good mood and we got mini-reunion of 3/4ths of the original line-up with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin joining him for part of a stripped-down set. Plus Liz Phair killed as the opener. Elvis Costello at the Fox Theatre in Riverside in April. A great career-spanning set. Mudcrutch a
  19. I really enjoyed listening to this. Great to hear recent interviews with Bill Berry and Scott Litt.
  20. Just saw this now so I'm a little late in replying. The cheering actually had to do with the crowd in the orchestra seating pushing back against the overzealous security that wouldn't let people stand for the show. The first couple songs were off Shmilco so most fans were sitting but security started going into the crowd to tell those standing to sit down. But once they got into Kamera everybody was on their feet and started cheering loudly as security folks finally gave up. Jeff commented about it, saying that he was a little confused about what was going on but liked the energy.
  21. I went to the 9/10 and 9/11 Fillmore shows and as great as they were, LA last night was my favorite of the three shows I was lucky to attend due to the great selection, reinterpretations of some songs and relaxed vibe. The only thing that detracted from that was the overzealous security who kept pointing their flashlights at people taking pictures. Now, I agree that there are too many people holding up their cell phones at shows these days but at a certain point it was the security guys distracting from the performance. Even worse, security at first wouldn't let people stand up during the
  22. Thanks for the reports. Looking forward to seeing them Saturday and Sunday. Was there a Fillmore poster handed out after the show and does anybody have a pic they can post?
  23. Yeah, I figured they'd mix it up. It' just a question of how much. I'm going to guess one poster for the entire residency. I've been going to the Fillmore for more than 20 years and have noticed some changes in the poster policy. They used to give them out for every show but now it's only for those that sell out. For some shows, if a band is selling its own poster there might not be a free one handed out because they'd rather you buy one from merch.
  24. I hope they change it up like they did with other residencies. I'm going two nights and I'm sure they know many fans will be going multiple nights. Obviously, they'll be highlighting the new songs but that still leaves a lot of room to mix it up.
