So how is the CD of Summerteeth that comes with the new LP? Does it sound better than the old Reprise disc, or is it just a repressing of the existing cd (identical mix/mastering)?

Well, I'll stand by what I said re: Cocaine and Ashes. The 'snorted my father' line really bugs me -- it pulls me out of the song, and that's never a good thing. I could have figured out the Keith Richards inspiration from the title and (as Dean Moriarty pointed out) the perfect Richards-esque close harmonies. To make the connection so literal with that line undermines -- for me -- what is otherwise a beautifully written song. And, right back at you, Matt (the Z) -- it figures we'd see eye to eye. I don't think it's particularly relevant to compare Wilco and Son Volt at this point. I love both bands, but they're fulfilling entirely different musical needs for me. But, since the premise of this thread is a comparison of the two new albums, the winner for me is, far and away, W(TA). Musically, they're both stone solid. I'd probably even give the slight edge to American Central Dust, because I'm a pushover for quality tunes with a bit of pedal steel and fiddle.
