  1. Fixed it for you. For the most part, virus writers just haven't devoted the time and effort to attack Macs yet. That time will come. ZoneAlarm is great, and the free version is all that most people need. Yes, you may have to click occasional buttons to approve or deny access for certain programs (you can mark a checkbox so your answer is retained for all future requests by a particular application), but it's not a big deal at all, and really, it's not a bad thing that it shows you which programs are trying to access the net. OK, it can be a bit confusing at times (a lot of stuff that it a
  2. So, will this win this sneak Michigan into the top 25?
  3. Christ that's great. I'm going to have to watch that whole show now. Thanks!
  4. CS doesn't let you save custom work environments?
  5. I'm not a Coldplay fan, but... You can hear the Satriani track here. Yeah, I can hear where he's getting this idea, but it's such a small snippet that I don't buy the "plagiarism" charge. I've always thought Satriani was a major douche, though, so I may be a tad biased.
  6. It's fairly specific to my particular field.
  7. Funny ... aside from Acrobat, I use a completely different set of Adobe products: RoboHelp 7, Captivate 3, FrameMaker 8 ... and something else that slips my mind at the moment.
  8. Not historically, but this is the school that just won the Big East's BCS bid, went 10-2, and is ranked 13th in both the AP and BCS. There's not really any reason they can't develop a football reputation there.
  9. Adobe has its issues too, of course. I use at least four different Adobe apps on a regular basis, and I've wanted to pitch each of them out the window on numerous occasions. I use Adobe apps to create help systems/publications, yet their software has some of the worst, most unhelpful help I've ever seen (even worse than Microsoft's, in most cases). They've been trying to improve it, but it's merely gone from utterly useless to completely horrible. The best way to learn an Adobe program (short of immersing yourself in it for a few weeks) is to buy a third-party guide.
  10. Meh. I've been forced to use Microsoft products for many years now, and I've generally found that if I don't expect too much from them, they don't tend to let me down. There are a ton of things I can do in Word these days that I'm quite thankful for, and as flawed a program as it is, my work life absolutely revolves around Outlook (I'm not sure how I ever lived without it). I would definitely recommend, however, not using any kind of fancy stationery in Outlook. Signatures are one thing -- but stationery falls under the "expecting too much" category.
  11. I don't know that I'd call the New Pornographers her "primary band." Makes it sound like she's a member of the NPs first and a solo artist second. Thanks for posting that, A-man ... can't wait! I thought this was interesting.
  12. Anyone watch this last night? How was it?
  13. Seconded x 1,000,000 Plus, I'd add at least two albums on that list to the "trash" pile.
  14. All I could think after reading this yesterday was ... if they buried this much weed with this guy, how much did they keep for themselves?
  15. "snow-caine" I use one of these fuckers, so there are fewer lines:
  16. I bought this shirt from them a few years back. Not because I'm an IT guy, but because I'm the guy who writes "TFM."
  17. I don't think I get the Sundance Channel () but this sounds awesome. Salon.com piece from today: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Elvis lives! Elvis Costello chats up everyone from Lou Reed to Bill Clinton on his eclectic Sundance talk show, "Spectacle." By Heather Havrilesky Dec. 03, 2008 | This is what heaven must look like for songwriters. You wander into the middle of a lively conversation between close friends Elton John and Elvis Costello, discussing the virtues of songwriting greats from Leon Russell to Laura Nyro. Next, Costello plays an odd acoustic version
  18. NPR ran an obituary this morning, featuring bits of an interview from 2005. RIP.
  19. I wonder what the record is for length of time between first joining the board and submitting one's first post. The seal is broken ... welcome to the dark side!
