I wonder if that's the origin of the expression "on my last nerve." Congrats, by the way!

Why is the sky blue sky blue?

"Disc" is the (music) industry standard. When you look at the packaging of virtually any CD, you'll see the "Compact Disc" logo. (That's true for older CDs, anyway ... maybe they've stopped that in recent years.) Even with CD-Rs, though, I usually see that same logo, complete with the "Disc" spelling.

I just saw this story. That sucks ... when I was first getting into the NBA (which I didn't do until college), I lived in a house full of Bostonians, and they all loved Dennis Johnson ... I became a fan of him myself (though by default my loyalties were with the Bulls). We'll miss you, DJ. article

You've gotten so defensive about this album that you'll never see why lots of us aren't impressed by it. Perhaps we ought to just end this now.

I think Blockbuster seriously underestimates people's frustration with their shitty video stores. Yes, there will be some people who think it's great that they get to take their rent-by-mail movies back to a brick-and-mortar store to exchange for a new one, but there will be many more people like me who fucking hate video stores and enjoy Netflix precisely because it frees me from the horror of walking into one of those pits of hell. Also: Blockbuster is evil.

That's not quite what's happening. The non-state commercial company (which is actually a trade association) is merely filing complaints with the state-funded universities. The universities are then taking whatever actions they deem to be appropriate. Universities that are afraid of legal action are bowing to that pressure and trying to put a stop to student downloading -- and when they're state universities, it's easy to argue that this is a prudent step to protect taxpayers from the costs of litigation. Simply put, the RIAA is trying to scare the universities into doing their dirty work

Your argument assumes that students don't get disciplined/suspended for underage drinking. They do. Sure, they usually don't get caught, but when they do, there are consequences.

I just created my own Google homepage and customized it to show whatever news feeds I want. Also, I have the BBC International RSS feed as a button on my bookmarks toolbar.

caliber beat me to it. Given the aggressive stand that the RIAA has taken, it's perfectly understandable.

Actually, the first thing that came to mind for me was this Hopper painting, but only because of the angle of the sunlight...

Cool cover. Almost looks like a Hopper painting.

Rogers Park? It's on the red line... I used to live in Edgewater (Granville stop on the red line), but that was back in the '90s. If it's gotten a little nicer since then (a big "if"), that might be OK. There was a Dominick's nearby that I always walked to.

A Jenny Lewis thread is a RSGF thread.

It's not, actually. She talks about those pics in an interview somewhere ... don't have the link any more.

Looks like it got removed.

Personally, I was quite disappointed in West long before I read the Pitchfork review. I just happen to agree with the reviewer in pretty much everything he said (aside from his numerical rating, which is a bit low).

...although I use dwindling hard drive space as a motivation to burn stuff off to CD every so often, and I don't want to mess with that. Still, doubling my available space for $125 sounds good...

Meh. That's probably low-hanging fruit for the RIAA. They can get the institutions to do their dirty work for them.
