  1. A Ghost Is Born. Words can't describe. Or words can describe but I don't really feel like going into it right now.
  2. Yeah, that seems to be the barrier for a lot of people. I like her how she sings though, for what sometimes sounds ridiculous or has ridiculous lyrics, it seems heartfelt. My friend saw them live not too long ago, and his impression was that the drummer was fantastic, but the singer was completely useless. As their newest biggest fan, I think she's essential. Speaking of which - NP:
  3. When it's pre-existing music, I'd say the answer is always yes, artistic integrity is compromised, but there are degrees (the lowest being a poverty stricken songwriter selling a throwaway tune to pay his ill-stricken mother's hospital bills, the highest being John Lennon rising from the dead to sell "Imagine" to Walmart for a cozier Pyramid-style tomb, made out of gold). Jack White's Coca Cola advertisement i think presents a different situation. One of the things I thought of before jumping into this thread was other artistic mediums that can translate into a commercial, and I thought of Wes
  4. As a representative of the "you can potentially connect with any style of music regardless of your skin tone" camp, my problem with mayer isn't what he can't do but what he doesn't do. i'm sure you and other mayer fans won't argue me over what is personal preference, i just wanted to get that out there.
  5. i've been fooling around with this question in my head since this thread was made, and i think musicians making money in advertising is unhealthy for music. if an artist is passionate about their music, i don't see how they could stand to have a 30 second clip of their song edited and blasted (seeing how commercials try to be as loud as possible) through TV speakers to get people interested in a car or a drink or whatever. on the other hand it seems downright foolish for a smalltime band or artist to turn down money equivalent to more than a year's worth of touring. but in order for the artist
  6. talented? yes. guitar-god? no. bland? yes.
  7. we're excluding those with vocal cords made of gold, OTM.
  8. 10 favorite singers that come to mind who are in what can be thought of as a rock band: Lou Reed John Lennon Jeff Tweedy Joe Strummer Beck Hansen George Harrison Kenji Suzuki Wayne Coyne Satomi Matsuzaki Paul McCartney
  9. a representation of the last 24 hours, though listening to them all at once might be something.

  11. In honor of their grammy wins, 'Best Engineered Album' and 'Best Rock Instrumental - The Wizard Turns On..."
  12. Jack White is amazing, but does he really need to be listed twice?
  13. Give Jeff credit for the guitarwork, his solos on AGIB are amazing. and both Jeff and Jim seem to fluctuate with their weight in "whoa is that the same person" ways, but i really couldn't care what they looked like.
  14. i wouldn't let Young Prayer stop me, in fact it kindof makes me feel that Panda Bear is more serious than his Animal Collective friends, which to me is good. i'm glad to hear you think Person Pitch is solid, though it brings me back to my frustration that it's only going to be on CD. i read this is because he focused on the songs individually which were released as 12-inch EPs, that he wants it CD-only. And while that seems like his method produced some great music, it just seems like a shame in the vinyl world, it'll never be a single album.
  15. not as good as grandaddy, but continuing that vibe:
  16. anyone else think it's dumb that this will not be released on vinyl? with just the two songs i've heard, and the memorable album art, i was prepared to grab an LP of it ASAP, but that won't be happening. i'm conflicted over Panda Bear anyway. I have some of his stuff that i've been meaning to listen to, but haven't yet, and I've listened to Young Prayer, but haven't exactly ran back to it except to listen to a random song every now and then. maybe it's just because i like the Beach Boys that i'm even interested, is Bros and Comfy in Nautica a good indicator of the rest? I've also tried to ge
  17. he actually reminds me of luke wilson for some reason, both in appearance and acting.
