  1. According to the below he managed Cheney's first electoral campaign. Crazy -- guessing they shared the same libertarian/anti-big goverment beliefs. Didn't know he was inolved with Burning Man, too. https://burners.me/tag/john-perry-barlow/
  2. Parrish tells some nice stories about Barlow on the above radio show, too. I guess Barlow and John Kennedy were friends. Of all the people in the GD cirlce - I think Barlow has to be the most known and influential outside the Dead circle. Crazy that him and Weir got hooked up in their youth.
  3. Great news about Malkmus -- plus he is playing Thalia Hall on June 3rd - definitely will catch that one. Must admit wasn't a huge fan of his last one. Bit too mellow.
  4. Nice radio show from last night. McNally tells a nice story of Barlow working as the Dead's tour manager for the June '80 tour. https://kpfa.org/episode/dead-to-the-world-february-7-2018/
  5. Definitely had a rough last couple of years. Was a very interesting, smart guy. Glad he was able to put up with Weir and write some great tunes. Message from his Electronic Frontier Foundation. http://electronic frontier foundation Definitely not a good way to start a new thread...
  6. Starting with the 1st show with horns - 9.11.73. I am sure have listened to it before. Always enjoyed The Race is On - wonder why Weir dropped it, for the most part, after 74. It would have fit nicely during his cowboy segments of the 80s/90s. Always enjoyed Donna's vocals on the 73/74 versions.
  7. What about horns with the Dead during Sept. 73 tour? Can't say I am too, too famillar with any of the shows. I don' think much or any from Sept. 73 has been offically released. http://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2012/01/horn-tour-september-1973-tour-itinerary.html
  8. La-La is pretty bad, the last few minutes or so of it are a bit interesting, but the rest goes nowhere.
  9. 1969 had Winona Ryder - of course it was great! I do remember that 'costumes' were a little too much 1969, though. It seemed like it was TV alot back then - I remember watching it a bit.
  10. Never heard of it. Must have been piggy backing off of that 1969 movie - I do remember watching that one (Downey Jr., etc) - looks like they both came out in 88. Someone should have made it a trilogy with a '67.
  11. From Jonathan Demme to Daryl Hannah. I always forget that Neil and Daryl are a thing.
  12. I think Mickey hurt his collar bone in summer of 77 - car accident. Billy's wrist was in a cast while in Eygpt - 78.
  13. With regards to the 'verge of falling apart' during the 11/6/77 show- I read that they partook in various substances/drink between sets, which is why the 1st set was a bit more tighter than the 2nd. It was the last show of the tour - so I guess they were enjoying themselves. At times, I like the 'loosness' of the Fall 77 shows. It depends on my mood on which I prefer. Who was Mickey's "coach"?
  14. The Jan/Feb 2018 issue of The Atlantic has a great piece on Russia and their 2016 meddling - well worth the read.
  15. Typically, I watch the State of Union addresses - definitely will be skipping tonight. Honestly, I don't think I could get through it. Watched his address to Congress for a few minutes last year, but couldn't get through it all.
  16. Snug Harbor email me back stating they are booked. So it is will be same exact campsite that we stayed at 2 years ago.
  17. I think the band use to stay at some resort on Lake Geneva when they were playing at Alpine, too.
  18. I think he means security - could be wrong. Looks like we will be staying at the same exact campsite that we stayed when they played up there in 2016. Other than sleeping and eating breakfast -we never hang much at the camp-sight anyways. We are typically in the lot by late morning. Though over the years the time we hung around the site - we never had any issues.
  19. We always stayed at Kettle Moraine in the past. Have an email into Snug Harbor.
  20. We need to book camping, still. Definitely should to coordinate a meet-up. It will be the first back to back night " Dead" run for my wife and a buddy of ours - should be a hoot.
  21. Did you end up getting tickets for both nights - Winston? Again going in, I figured lawn tickets would be available for a bit after the initial on sale time --- it is still kind of amazing the draw of this latest incarnation. Not that I don't think they warrant it, per se - it just surprises me.
  22. Grabbed pavilion seats for Sat and Lawn for Fri at Alpine. I had pavilion seats in my Q for Friday, too - but tossed them back. Couldn't see spending the dough on those seats for both nights.
  23. I tried on Monday and only Lawn tickets were popping up - gonna wait until Friday and see if i can find pavilion seats. If I do pull pavilion seats probably will back down when I see the total price and settle for lawn.
  24. Having kids I think of the kid's tune 'Tiny Destroyer'.... Listening to Destroyer's Rubies now via Spotify - hopefully it erases the TIny Destroyer from my head.
