Wilco - Baltimore - Lyric Opera House - 12/14/2008
sharkycharming replied to aphlipp's topic in After The Show
Yes! I had a great time last night, and Wilco never disappoints me when I see them live... but I was slightly surprised that I knew every word to every song and there weren't even any covers during the encore. I can't wait for new material! -
Did Anybody Get Tickets for the Baltimore Show?

Wilco is a very popular band in the Baltimore/DC area. The Lyric is a relatively small venue. I am not surprised it sold out right away. -

Just got three in the grand tier, row A. So happy!!! -
Thanks for being great, Jeff Tweedy. Have a wonderful birthday.

I think the dichotomy is supposed to be between the being a complicated near-genius and being from Belleville.

lynnowens, your pic is so wonderful that I've had it as my desktop background ever since you first posted it here. It makes me smile every morning when I get to work and turn on the monitor. So thanks to you and your kidlet for brightening my late summer 2007, and congratulations on your win.

At first I was truly confused and revolted by the thought of a ratatouille birthday cake, until I looked it up and saw that it's a kiddie movie. I am so glad your nephew isn't having eggplant and zucchini on his cake, Brianne. Happy 40th, Tweedy!

I got chicken pox as an adult, right after the anti-viral medication started being prescribed for it. (In 1997, I believe.) The anti-viral worked really well, and my chicken pox was much milder than it would have been without the drug. I was feeling much better within a week. So I hope that will be true for Nels, too. Also, shingles and chicken pox aren't exactly the same thing, despite that they are caused by the same virus. You can get chicken pox as an adult without it being shingles. Get well soon, Nels!

My top 10 shifts with my mood, but Wilco's been somewhere on that list since Being There came out. Right now, yes, they are in the #1 spot.

Yes! This has been happening to me for 2 days, too. I have to be pretty tenacious to get the board to load.

I agree. I am always very singing/lyrics-focused in my music appreciation -- for instance, it took me until today to click on this thread title because I am not very interested in guitar solos as a topic of discussion -- but when I saw the DVD version of "Impossible Germany," I almost wept because the solo was so beautiful. That reminds me, I gotta watch that DVD again soon. I haven't watched it since the day my CD came in the mail.

I am all for group art-projects, and I certainly have jeans to spare and no problem with the shipping costs. I guess I was just a little confused about who, specifically, the quilt would be going to and how it would be presented. If I knew more about the project, I think I would be more willing to participate.

Top Ten Things To Send To College With My Daughter
sharkycharming replied to trestle's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Send her mail (and get her friends and the rest of the family to send things, too) once she's gone. Although I had a great time being away from home that first year and really enjoyed my freedom, nothing made me as happy as having something in my campus mailbox. I swear I checked the mail four times a day. It's so much more exciting than email, too. -
I was there last night too -- 4th time seeing Wilco, and 2nd time seeing them at Merriweather. I was smushed into the middle of the GA section but enjoying every second of it -- thank gawd Wilco has some of the most respectful and friendly fans on earth or my social anxiety issues would have kicked up. I thought the music was extraordinary, and I am glad to hear that others agreed. My favorite stage banter was the request to send macrame to the band by simply addressing the envelope "Wilco, Chicago." Due to a beer-induced tailgating time warp, my friends and I missed Low. But we made it

Probably -- I think they usually have a unique poster for each show. I'm packing my beans, too.

Tweedy in the Wall Street Journal

And don't forget "Mr. Drake" and "Mr. Dylan." That just sounds odd to me! -
My favorites have been evolving. Right now the two I love best are "Hate It Here" and "You Are My Face." I had a visceral negative reaction to "Shake It Off" the first time I heard it, but I have to admit that it's been growing on me a lot.

The long out-of-print Black Snake Diamond Role, I Often Dream of Trains, and Eye are being reissued by Yep Roc on 10/16/2007. They will include the bonus tracks that were part of the 1995 Rhino Robyn Hitchcock reissue campaign. They'll be available separately or as a box-set that includes 2 discs of additional material. They're going to release 3 more Hitchcock albums in 2008 but I don't have the titles.
