  1. I was listening to Barney Frank's analysis on the bill that pushes back. He actually made it sound like not as dire of a situation as you might think. I'd be out of my element to try and summarize what he said, but he said while he wouldn't vote for it and increased some risks, it is the most the GOP could muster and leaves the majority of the act in tact to do what it was intended to. Some of his statement is recapped here: https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/22/613390275/congress-to-undo-part-of-dodd-frank-easing-rules-for-mid-sized-smaller-banks
  2. When I was writing music reviews for my college paper I was slipped a promo copy of Kingsbury Manx, out on Yep Roc. I listened and read the liner notes. Great mellow psychedelic folk rock, then I see it was produced by Wilco's own Mikael Jorgensen. Awesome! Then they were playing a favorite venue/bar in town. My girlfriend at the time and I showed up and saw some dudes hanging around the merch table. It was some of the guys in the band who were clearly bored and super friendly. Loved talking to me about music, their's, Wilco's, others. This was to be a great night. Then they played and it
  3. Just heard You Never Know for the first time in a year or so. That might be my least favorite.
  4. As David Fricke said in the doc while holding up a cd "If you don't get what's inside here..... that's just kind of too bad."
  5. Finland in the summer sounds pretty cool. New Wilco recording in the fall also sounds pretty cool. Maybe we'll get to hear it early enough in 2019.
  6. Last time I tried to be playfully "record store guy" smug and chide someone's negative opinion on here (circa 2013) they got really bummed out..... But disliking anything on AGIB is mathematically proven to be a false notion. But seriously 'love what you're gonna love' seemed to be expanded into 'hate what you want to hate' here, which I guess might appeal to Jeff Tweedy's cynical sensibilities.
  7. It's been a long time, but I remember some folks on here feeling persecuted for being critical of some period in the Wilco catalog. Clearly this time has passed. It's nice that people feel comfortable having different opinions. Although most people in this thread are demonstrably wrong.
  8. I'm getting there. That first instrumental has such a great mood and texture, then opening into Georgia singing "Painting my room to reflect my mood," over the vintage 60's vamp complete with tambourine. Pretty great.
  9. That would wrap all the way around! I'd get a humming bird with "Remember to remember me" in Old English below it and the initials of one of my dead homies.
  10. Changes all the time, but right now... On the sad side- Wishful Thinking On the toe-tapping- Pot Kettle Black
  11. It's tied between: Leave Me Like You Found Me, I Thought I Held You and Can't Stand It I like that someone here loves these songs, like I love some other people's least favs.
  12. Hey North Korea, make deals with America. We make the best deals, I mean huge. And if they're bad we'll cancel them on you and renew sanctions. Let's build some trust!!
  13. Which is kind of fantastic: A literally collapsing nuclear regime symbolized by a mountain.
  14. I've finally gotten the new one. Gotta say, so far it's kind of B minus to me. Totally pleasant, kind of on the Brian Eno tip at times, just not as thrilling as all of the other releases I've picked up from them.
  15. To try an be very open minded: Some moderates have suggested that part of the progress (and then only part) in N Korea has been the way Kim responded to an atypical, grandstanding American figure. If there can ever be anything approaching a "Trump Doctrine" it would be an effectiveness to communicating to tyrants the way they understand- like a military dictator might. Maybe Iran might give even more ground. I don't actually believe any of that will work, but it's my best "devil's advocate" response.
  16. Crap, didn't know that about Diaz either. I still think he wrote a great book, but I might not go out and buy the next one.
  17. I got the new 33 1/3 series on Jawbreaker "24 Hour Revenge Therapy" and Fugazi "In on the Killtaker". Both have been great. The Jawbreaker one got a little silly with Aristotle quotes, but only slightly pretentious. Jawbreaker was after all a literary band.

  19. That looks really nice! We're looking at visiting both Vancouver, and Victoria/Vancouver Island. So we're kind of thinking of spending a couple nights in a hotel in one place, and closer to a week in an Air BnB in another. As a local, where do you think we'll find more value to the longer stay/exploration?
  20. So much of this Sunday morning shit show demonstrates why limiting ammunition capacity can save lives. https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/22/us/waffle-house-shooting-hero-tennessee/index.html It sounds like the weapon actually malfunctioned, but fewer bullets equals more chances for someone to step in. The dude who wrestled this guy is a god damned hero and deserves something grand because a lot of the people in that Waffle House owe him their lives.
  21. ^ Great song. I hope we get a studio version sometime soon.
  22. I'm not sure if Jeff is cool with people filming him on their phones, so I'll hold off on the link, but for the curious someone posted a youtube of him playing a song called "When You Wake Up to Me" at this gig. A pretty honest sounding, autobiographical lyric in there jumps out: And the people say: "What drugs did you take? Why don't you start taking them again." They're not my friends. And if I was dead, what difference would it ever make to them...."
  23. Whoa, now that's something. I hope it's good!
  24. What's the over/under that he got Cohen's help to settle a sexual harassment case?
