  1. Here's where I get up on my soapbox to proclaim the virtues of the David Nelson Band (again ). Nelson, a co-founder of NRPS, really digs into the Americana thing better than anyone currently out there. A scattering of GD tunes (really, only the ones he had a hand in) plus alot of his own material (quite a few of which were co-written with Robert Hunter) & many many songs that go way back to Appalachia & jigs & reels. Barry Sless is a fabulous guitarist w/o being a slavish Garcia imitator. These guys can stretch tunes out but I'd hardly lump them into the jamband category. Ok, en
  2. Well, they do have Jimmy Herring now, arguably the finest guitarist on the jam scene. I just said WSP 'cuz it was the only thing I could think of...wait, the Disco Biscuits...yeah, that's it.
  3. And the answer is: Widespread Panic! Hey q23 if you've ever seen the Cheese post somethin' in the thread over in SES.
  4. Setlist: I (Acoustic): Lester Had a Coconut, Long Journey Home, I've Just Seen a Face, Walls of Time, Panama Red, Hobo Song, Stingray II: One Step Closer>Rhum 'n Zouc, Sirens, Come As You Are, Indian Creek, Best Feeling*>Fuel For the Road*, Way Back Home III: Restless Wind, Piece of Mine, Looking Glass>Drifting, Rain, Rhythm of the Road>Bumpin' Reel>Shine E 1: Fearless#>Whiskey Before Breakfast, Good Times Around the Bend E2 : TEXAS! *= w/ Keller Williams #=Pink Floyd cover
  5. I once seen a triple bill at Deer Creek: Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms & Cracker. For 10 bucks. Cracker OWNED the show imo.
  6. Tonight, at the beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheatre in their home state of Colorado the eclectic bluegrass/jamband String Cheese Incident are playing what is evidently their last show together. Guitarist/vocalist Billy Nershi is moving on to other musical expressions, and all of the rest of the band have side projects as well. From '99 through '02 or so I followed these guys quite a bit & had some amazing times with them. Imo their best days are behind them but they still can bring the heat when the spirit moves them . By all indications this tour has been very very good. Such as shame to s
  7. KT is a great sounding record, and is a nice snapshot of the band at that time. I've mentioned this before, but seeing how it was their first official live release I really wish that there was more stuff from the first 3 records. At least 75% of what's on there is YHF/AGIB stuff. Nothing wrong with that I just wish it was a little more comprehensive.
  8. Happy Birfday to one of our favorite people here! We miss you already..come back to the Midwest soon!
  9. Happy Birfday from The Dawg & Spud Boy!! Have a great day man!
  10. Man I searched everywhere I could think of to get a pic of that South Park episode where the goat from Afghanistan gets mistaken for Stevie Nicks, to no avail. That's just about my favorite bit from that show. I hate Stevie Nicks!
  11. Stewart & Colbert have been mining this comedy gold for the last few days.
  12. Absolutely. I couldn't stand what he later became but when he was working with Gabriel & Hackett that was some amazing shit.
  13. Oh yeah! I taped a program on PBS a looong time ago about Rollins called 'Saxophonus Collossus'. The first thing on it was a live version of G-Man that was 15 solid minutes of some of the most mind blowing soloing I've ever heard. I mean he never stopped!
  14. That's great to see our boy up there on that list, but having Billy Cobham at #45 & Bill Bruford at #23 is just ridiculous.

  16. Man, I enjoyed reading this whole thing! I don't know what to add here. Being a life-long Pacers fan & living in the area all my life I've come across many of the ABA-era Pacers at some point here & there. Nearly everyone I've met in the music world was just after a show. I doubt if that counts as "bumping into them" but among many I can think of Ian Hunter, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, John Hammond Jr.,and John "Marmaduke" Dawson. And of course most of the Wilcos. I once saw Dr. Tim Leary give a "lecture" (I use the word liberally ) at a nightclub in Indy in '88 or so. After his
  17. So are you man. I'm gonna go off-topic here for a sec to just tell you Mike that I was listening to the Alice Cooper radio show at work last night & he played Inca Roads! On the effin' radio! I tell you I almost had a freakout.
  18. I've taken all of my kids to see Wilco at various times. You will have a wonderful experience with your young 'un.
  19. Yes it was. I've buried friends & family & not had it affect me as profoundly as missing someone I never even met. Wierd. "Though I never met him, I knew him just the same" --Byrds, He Was a Friend of Mine
  20. At least the GD have achieved a certain amount of respectability over the years. Not too many outright haters here at VC I think (unlike with that Vermont-based band with the phonetically-challenged name ). 12 years ago today folks. A definite demarcation point of my twisted little life.
  21. I've never listened to leaks with SBS being the only exception. I rarely listen to anything but live recordings.
