  1. Achilles Last Stand = definition of epicness
  2. I know these are just opinions man. But to me Poor Places & Ashes are just about the best songs Wilco has ever made. overrated: Pieholden underrated: most of A.M.
  3. Happy Birfday Matt!! 29??? Are you kiddin' me?? I can barely remember 29! Go down to teh Big Red & grab a 120...and give that boy Dylan a big hug from all of us.
  4. I hope their next musical direction deliberately polarizes their fanbase to such an extent that there will be heated arguments among their fans along the lines of " you're not listening to them in the right way" & "stfu you highy messed-up freak".
  5. Agreed. If I ever got the chance to sit down with Jeff, I'd love to throw this idea at him.
  6. Yeah, they did the 'discovery'. That, and the meeting with the Oracle were passed over for years when 2112 was played. But I guess for the 20th anniversary of the tune they decided to bring the whole shebang back.
  7. God, I'm jealous you guys. Tracy & MChris you know it was so nice to meet you girls, and Bjornicus, one of these days man...
  8. Kinda off-topic, but didn't I see this thread closed earlier today? I couldn't figure that out. I agree that a Spence doc would be a very worthwhile thing.
  9. When they did the '97 tour the played the ENTIRE 2112 suite for the first time in 20 years. Nearly all of the Elwood contingent was there for that. It was like a family reunion. About a half-dozen of us (who had been seeing Rush together since high school) were on the lawn. Good times! I think the best show I ever saw of these guys was the Permanent Waves tour in '80. They did Cygnus X-1> Cygnus X-1 (Book Two) Hemispheres AND the very best thing: By-Tor & The Snow Dog>Xanadu...Alex let the e-string ring out in the 'space' section of By-Tor & it segued perfectly in to Xanadu. 10. Thanks for the review El P! I've caught Rush many many times since '78 & they are one of the best, tightest live acts around. The new record is pretty damn good imo but it's nice to see stuff like Subdivisions & Distant Early Warning still getting aired out. A good friend of mine caught the tour on the East Coast a month or so ago & said Natural Science totally kicked his ass. His favorite part of the show. I'm looking forward to the Deer Creek show in August!
  11. Thanks for the heads up Lou. This sounds very interesting. I'd agree with partyroy that it baffles me that there hasn't been a definitive Syd Barrett doc come out, but other than a few TV appearances my guess is that there is almost nothing of the early Floyd or Syd's haphazard & short solo career out there that could be used
  12. I'll second Scalzunfield here. Easily my least favorite song on SBS. If they just would have substituted LNGCA for Leave Me..
  13. ^^^ foolnrain, that was beautiful man. I could not have possibly said it any better.
  14. Unfortunately no. I remember there was an "Interstellar Overdrive" tease that completely threw me for a loop! Chris may have them...he's got a shitload of PJ live recordings (I wonder where he got that idea from ).
  15. My son is a HUGE fan. I took him to see his first PJ show in '03 & I was mightily impressed, both by the band & the fans as well. Everyone there was exactly where they wanted to be.
  16. I taped off of PBS the doc "Black Wax" a long time ago. In fact, knowing it was going to be on TV was a catalyst for buying my first VCR. If it's available, I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in GSH. Winter in America & Midnight Band (& to a lesser extent Moving Target) are fantastic records!
  17. I gotta second GregRVA's suggestion regarding Gil-Scott Heron. That guy has written some of the most incendiary political material ever. One of my personal favorites.
  18. You ain't foolin' anyone. We all know you're just a big-ol' teddy bear at heart.
  19. This has little if anything to do with studio recordings (and the revenue they generate) but I think one of the best things to come from the music industry lately is offering fans that go to live shows the opportunity to purchase soundboard-quality cds of the show they've just witnessed. It's great for the fans, but it's also good for the bands in that it supplements their touring income. Pearl Jam, Phil Lesh & others have successfully used this. Many tour-heavy bands would do well to follow the example imo.
  20. Rock on my late night RTT friend! Hope all is well & Happy Birfday!
  21. Son, I think we need to have a little talk... (just keeding man, congratulations! )
  22. OK, here's the Fall tour dates! http://www.phillesh.net/philzonepages/frie...f/calendar.html Lammy, you gets your wish!
