  1. IRDB, will you two being living in that lovely apartment you showed us a while back? It looked like it could use a woman's touch...
  2. Bump. I went looking for the thread, ready for my usual Monday fix but I didn't realize Aman put 2 week's worth of Lemieux in last week's post. D'oh! Regarding this week: the Englishtown show I know we've talked about before, but possibly one of my favorite (non-musical) parts of the show is John Scher's introduction: On guitar, Bob Wee-uhh! On vocals, a very fine lady, Miss Donna Jean God-showwwww! And then...On guitar, Mr. Jerry Garcia!(HUGE roar from the 100K in attendance). Great, outdoor feel to that. It's really a shame there isn't more of '85 on official release - in fact, wi
  3. Nice work, Donna! And...how old is that crazy dog now? Is he full growed? Please tell Alissa I sure could use a donation of those sweet locks!
  4. Not necessarily tension-building, but there are few pickers out there that can construct a lenghty solo better than Mr. Richard Forrest Betts.
  5. There ya have it, folks. End of thread. I'll throw in my .02 and say "Starless", from KC's Red album. Disturbing and powerful.
  6. Indeed. The one Edward Jr. gave (with the story about going sledding soon after his prothesis) kinda choked me up.
  7. War Pigs - Sabbath Cities On Flame With Rock & Roll - Blue Oyster Cult Dazed & Confused - Zeppelin Highway Star (live) - Deep Purple Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC Star Spangled Banner - Hendrix Feedback (Live Dead version) - The Dead Sweet Jane (Live 'RXR Animal' version) - Lou Reed I Don't Need No Doctor (live) - Humble Pie Drop Dead Legs - VH
  8. I too was a huge fan. Saw SRV every time he came to the area. First time was '84, 4th row seats. He encored with "Lenny" with his legs hanging off the edge of the stage. What a wonderful night. The last time was at Deer Creek. I think it might have been the show before the final one at Alpine. Joe cocker opened. SRV was playing as good as ever - maybe better. I miss the guy a hell of a lot. One of the best ever.
  9. Ted was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, as we all know. His family's legacy was assured long before he hit the scene. He could have lived the life of the idle rich, and just hung out on his yacht, doing nothing of real substance. But he did not. Instead, he became the voice of the disenfranchised - those who didn't have someone in their corner to go up against the entrenched interests of the 'power elite'. Workers rights, civil rights, womens rights, gay/lesbian rights - the list is endless. Ted spoke for ALL of us, and in doing so became quite possibly more important to the history o
  10. Wonderful shots as always, tinnitus. I fell in love with Chrissie when I first saw her in concert (up front, she sang right to me) over 25 years ago, and I still love her.
  11. Thanks for sharing, Robby. I just came home to some horrific news an hour ago. My niece's baby boy just passed away at 4 months of age. I'm so stunned I don't know what to think. My wife (the birthing coach, the one who cut the cord) is totally distraught. But I'm thinking SBS might be the next thing I trow on - you are absolutely correct when you say that Jeff can make the bad times a litle easier to bear.
  12. I'll probably get busted on for this because I know these guys were EXTREMELY overplayed (especially back in the day), and they eventually went "Air Supply" on us, but Chicago Transit Authority has it all me thinks.A hell of a debut LP. It has clever, well crafted horn-driven pop (Does Anybody Know What Time It Is?, Questions 67&68)a real nice cover (I'm A Man), and some great long jams (Poem 58, Liberation). God bless Terry Kath - his playing on this record is FIERCE, and on stuff like Poem 58 he out-claps Clapton and out-pages Page. Really, these guys could have hung it up after t
  13. Should live albums count in this discussion? If so, I'll say Live Dead. As for studio LPs I'll throw The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway out there. Not even Genesis' best record but still a masterpiece.
  14. God, that's hilarious. And yeah, what's he doing in a liquor store? Trying to find inspiration to actually write a decent song? I used to work with this girl who really thought Tyler was the shit. I asked her, "why would you wanna do that guy? He's old enough to be your father!" Her reply: "well, he ain't my father." I always thought that was cute.
  15. Oh. My. God. Could it be? Did they really NOT play ITMWLY? Someone call the paramedics - I'm gonna have a major coronary!
  16. I feel compelled to respond to this - especially the last couple of sentences. It is so true - I can't imagine a self-confessed 'family guy' like Jeff (or John or Glenn now, for that matter) gets a big kick out of dragging the fam all over hell's half-acre most of the year. Or maybe they do, I have no idea. The best example of touring making more bucks than record sales has to be the Dead (y'all knew I was gonna mention that ). Until "In The Dark" those guys NEVER sold a million records, not even close. But they continued to play shows year after year to large crowds. There is something ki
  17. Happy Birthday Greg! See you at the Palace Theatre someday (soon)!
  18. I mean, the girl loves IPAs AND bacon! How can I not love this person? Hope your day was fantastic Ms. Y!!!
  19. Man, I do love those Ikos out of Space, too. Especially the early Ikos - very slow, seductive groove on those. That week and a half (7/31 - 8/10, '82) is a VERY good period. The 8/7 Alpine show was worthy enough for a DP, but really every show in this time frame is good listening.
  20. 14 years ago today. We might have covered this before, but where were you when you got the news? RIP Jer - still nary a day goes by that I don't miss ya.
