I know it was rainy/wind/thunder/lightening but that hasn't precluded sbs from emerging before. Not surprising if you neither saw live nor listened to any GD from '81-'88 (almost his entire career with band, save 3-4 yrs). He was an instilled part of the band when I started seeing shows in '81, so I guess that's a big factor in our differences regarding Brent and his playing/vocals/contributions to the band's legacy, etc.

I'd still say that 5.8.77 Dew (crescendo and all) is rivaled by the '83 SPAC Dew (crescendo and all).....

This is coming to Red Rocks again this summer and based on the previous reviews it's well worth the ticket price....

I like Tons of Steel (wife says it's "bad") and We Can Run. Don't care for Just a Little Light, though. The carnival-esque keys are a turn off, and used to really like " Take You Home," but it's hard to listen to, now. Love Easy to Love You, Far From Me, Maybe You Know, Blow Away, Pocky Way, Louie, Louie. As much as I appreciate a lot of his lead vocal tunes, he really shined on backing vocals and co-vocals (Gimme Some Lovin', Mr. Fantasy, Keep On Growing, Let the Good Times Roll, etc.)

The caucus was pretty wild in my district of CO last night: absolutely packed scene, a good bit of confusion, crying babies over proxies yelling out backings, confusion on where to confer for specific precincts, people "undecided" when straw and real votes were taken (and then people on both sides were allowed to try and sway them). Almost a surreal process.

Are you referring to the entirety of the 80s? I hope not, as I see the 80s broken into 2 halves, really, with pre- and post-coma. There really is a pretty noticeable distinction between the two, even down to how Garcia moved on stage. I've always been able to find diamonds in all the eras but yeah. 80-83 was solid,imo, as well. The acoustic stuff early in '80, some really great set lists in 81-82, and '83 is one of my favorite years, particularly the fall tour. Was not a huge fan of the collaboration. Dylan mauled some of his own tunes (imo), particularly back in '86. Subsequent years had him seemingly barking lyrics out (always thought he looked like a big, barking chipmunk on the Jumbotrons), and I never thought the band and he melded too well. I like Dylan's take on his tunes but I also love how the GD covered him, too. Often, the 2 sides doing the same tune together at the same time turned into an almost futile and struggling effort (I'm thinking of "Baby Blue" '86 RFK, "Desolation Row" anywhere, etc. where tempos and expression of lyrics were o

Knocked out the first chapter last night, looks like it'll be an engaging read. One thing that popped out was how broke they (Garcia/MG were referenced) were in 1970, still (on WIC, eating PB&J and buying big bags of rice, etc.) and then the images of the Festival Express from same time period....

I think it's only been out a few weeks and no "Prime" benefits.....
