  1. Neil Young has the best 1-note guitar solo on "Cinnamon Girl". I'm partial to Bob Mould's solo on "Wishing Well". Any time Richard Thompson picks up a guitar, it's better than 99% of what's been played.
  2. The first show to use this method in Des Moines was Miley Cyrus. How many parents had to go through the ticket line just to get their tweens through the door? Ridiculous.
  3. When you take in the whole picture: instrumental prowess, composition, stage presence, versatility, he is definitely one of the greatest.
  4. Prince is an incredible guitar player, and that is a good solo. I'll take his solo on "Let's Go Crazy" over that, though.
  5. Biggest off season move so far doesn't involve any teams. Peter Gammons leaving ESPN for MLB Network
  6. 10 seconds of Numb or Radio Cure? IMO, they're both unbelievable. Comfortably Numb is such a classic rock radio staple that it took Bad Plus to remind me what a great song it is.
  7. I remember hearing that Ravi Shankar's contribution to her childhood were little beyond the act of conception. I think they have a decent relationship now, but if he wasn't much of a father, she's not much of a Shankar.
  8. Thought I might see this post after I saw the score. I think the jury's still out on Tomlin. He's a young man and was a great coordinator. He certainly hasn't done anything to lose his job, esp. in Pittsburgh where head coach stability is a trademark of the franchise.
  9. Nothing in particular to add to this thread today except I really enjoyed catching up on it.
  10. Daily Routine drudge nyt (esp. on Wed. and Sun. to read Friedman) via chicago comics.com/frazz Minneapolis Star Tribune Sports section facebook
  11. Finally finished Moby Dick. It was the wrong autumn to tackle it. Glad I read it, but I've been so busy, it took forever. Started this now. I might start one of these 2 before I finish this one:
  12. I'm so Tired or, as mentioned before, Happiness is a Warm Gun. Or, Everybody's Got Somthing to Hide Except for Me & My Monkey. That latter would suit Nels' style.
  13. Your context does help clarify matters. Thank you.
  14. While I am sure I have read all of your posts, I don't always keep track of who says what. If you point wasn't to equate church goers with rapists, why not use some other example? The group dynamics of, say, a rowdy football or soccer crowd? Or a political rally? Choosing rape seemed to me to be a rather deliberate choice with an evil connotation. If I was wrong in reading implications that were not there, I apologize.
  15. Not sure what you're confused about. You equated going to church with rape, I took offense. Your post seemed to imply that church goers are all victims (for lack of a better word) of groupthink. I would contend that all of us are subject to that. By comparing church goers with rapists, I assumed that you were putting atheists on a higher plane of thought. 1. Are all non Christians (the majority of the earth) doomed to a life in hell for believing in the wrong god? While many people of faith believe this about their religion, I certainly do not. I'm not even sure what heaven is and
  16. While your point on group dynamics may be valid, to equate going to church (or any place of worship) with rape is grossly offensive. I guess atheists are too enlightened to be subject to the rules of group psychology.
  17. Impossible Germany At Ross' in Bettendorf, IA while eating a "Volcano". Texas toast topped with loose meat, fries, cheese sauce, chili, and onions.
  18. A good read. Challenging, Banks is never fun or easy, but satisfying. Considering Brown was basically a "terrorist", it was interesting seeing the point of view of a terrorist with a truly righteous cause, but a terrorist nevertheless.
  19. Ummm... no. The Steelers are still one of the premier teams in the league, despite today's horrible performance. The Vikings defense is still showing the good effects of his coaching. He is now and will be for years to come one of the great NFL coaches. And one hell of a doctor, too.
