  1. This is totally understandable. Expectations are very powerful and can color a persons perceptions. Same is true of movies, TV or any other art form. I first listened to JWH at the peak of my Dylan obsession (we all went thru that phase, no?) and it worked for me. I loved the rough around the edges feel. It felt real, honest and unpretentious. By the time I listened to OM, I had moved on to other musical interests/obsessions and it did not click for me. I wanted something that it was not. So, in a sense, we both went into those LPs with expectations and let it color our opinions - just in reve
  2. I would have to vote for this one. Laura Marling - Master Hunter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO2gm29rI7E
  3. Jesus H-Bomb Christmas that is heresy. I adore JWH and cannot find the will power to listen to post 1980 Dylan.
  4. I think you got it. I like to slide the 4 to 5 on the riff, but YMMV, of course. Splitting hairs. 5. ^ That is an enviable collection of gear - especially the Buck Owens. Totally want. How do you like the J-50's adjustable bridge? Any thoughts of swapping it out?
  6. Called Birria in Mexican food. I used to like it (before i became a vegetarian).
  7. Nothing says Rock and Roll like a Flying V and a telephone cord cable
  8. Well, I finally started on these. Picked up the entire set (on Kindle) for only 10 bucks (black friday deal). .
  9. As both Superior Spider-Man and Magneto, the answer for the best Wilco show experience is obvious: climb the ceiling and perch just over the band, then drop down several high quality microphones. Record the best sounding show on Owl & Bear. Distribute FLAC to ViaChicago.org. Rinse and repeat for entire tour (hopefully I could use my new found abilities to quit my job).
  10. Has anyone tried to figure out JT's recent solo acoustic arrangements of Art of Almost and Bull Black Nova? They seem like they would be pretty fun to test drive.
  11. Cant Stand It might have the least interesting chord progression: for the most part it is D and G. Summerteeth, on the other hand, has one of the most interesting ones.
  12. I have mentioned on this board in the past and was promptly ridiculed. So I will say it again: I love KALE
  13. Fair enough. I have been reading comics since I was old enough to pull on some Underroos (do they still make them?). And without a doubt, the power I always wanted was Magneto's. So I choose #9 (hopefully I can move bigger objects than just nickels and nails).
  14. Not much I can add to the above wonderful reviews. It was a real treat for a real hardcore Wilco nerd like myself. Great setlist, funny/loose JT, excellent crowd, phenomenal venue. ... perfect. (minor complaint: no unplugged at edge of stage. I am 0 for 2!).
  15. This reminds me of the (brilliant) This American Life story: Flight vs Invisibility.
  16. After seeing the solo shows, this one came to mind. Very interesting. Also thought the solo Art of Almost was pretty interesting.
  17. I love Pandora for driving around. I still like the experience of listening to 'radio' while driving. Problem is: most radio stations suck. Pandora is like the perfect radio station. At home, I love the desktop spotify so I can listen to full albums. Again, just what I am used to.
  18. After the SB gig, I am reminded at out much more I love the solo/acoustic Sunken Treasure over the album version.
  19. This was my first solo show and, therefore, really really enjoyed it. It was a long, tough drive from OC on a Friday, but totally worth it. For reasons bbop mentioned above, I could tell that it was probably not the best show on this tour, but it was still great hearing those tunes live. I was especially disappointed to not have the "w/o PA" song at the end. But, nonetheless, Jeff sounded great and played great. Loved some of the song choices both obvious and deep cut ones. I will be at Largo on Monday, so I will have another chance. Cant wait. Assorted musings: - The solo acoustic arra
  20. I don't think this is very controversial, is it? I think most (well-versed) people agree. I would say they made one good record ... maybe. Agreed. Again, probably not controversial(is it?) This is truely blasphemy. I would love to see this. I assume this is a joke.
  21. I would be hard pressed to say Wilco is my favorite band. If push came to shove, I would have to say Zeppelin.
  22. Agreed! Also, my favorite version of ITMWLY is the solo acoustic (think Farm Aid) version. Spiders, I'm torn. Enjoy both kraut and solo (for difference reasons).
