  1. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America You won't be disappointed.
  2. And please don't talk about Jay Bennett. Please. But you can paraphrase Bob Edwards: Wilco went from being outside of the commercial music market to transcending it.
  3. I just saw them at the 930 Club last week, and, frankly, I was surprised at the extent to which Jeff has turned over guitar solo duties to Nels. For instance, I hadn't yet seen "Impossible Germany" live, but I was sure it was Jeff who played the first solo.
  4. I was blown away seeing Glenn at the 930 last week. During IATTBYH, he was playing the bells part with one hand, and a full rhythm with his other hand. What an artist.
  5. Glenn: I just want you to understand what I am saying. Jeff: I don't have to understand you. Leroy: [awkward silence] John: [awkward silence]
  6. Why is Glenn the only one who gets up to cover Jeff's back?
  7. If people are going to criticize "new" material or "the direction the band is heading," then they should at least be speaking about material that has been written recently and that indicates the future of the band.
  8. I thought Tony--with the shaved head--looked like Marlon Brando in 'Apocalypse Now.'
  9. Walken is not a new song. Thanks I Get was written a while ago for Jack Johnson.
  10. For those of you listening at home: if you hear some drunken idiot screaming "CANDYFLOSS!", that'll be me.
  11. TONIGHT: everybody stay off the goddamn stage. That means you, drunken college kids.
  12. My favorites: http://bt.viachicago.org/ http://www.dimeadozen.org/ http://bt.etree.org/?search=wilco&cat=0
  13. Usually in theaters, although clubs and arenas are not bad.
  14. This is where you can hear it on Thursday.
  15. For those of you who can't make it to the 930 Club this Thursday, you can check out the webcast: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6262709. There are also a bunch of links to old NPR stories on the band on that page--a good resource for the true Wilco nerd.
  16. Jeff-- My thoughts are with you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss. JC Wash DC
  17. Jesus don't cry You can rely on me honey I think he lays out his entire cosmology in 'jesus etc' I'm just not sure I'm smart enough to figure it out (and I have a master's degree in poetry, of all things)
  18. You know, I played this little game with myself a while ago, then I went and checked my faves/less than faves against the setlists on wilcobase. I love 'misunderstood'; it's been played in pretty much every show since the middle of the Clinton administration. I'm not such a big fan of 'pot kettle black'; it's basically vanished from the repetoire. I just thought it was interesting to see how my choices stacked up against what the band chose to play most often. Of course, it must be said that I hesitate to denigrate any Wilco song.
  19. When I got the confirmation e-mail of the pre-order, all I could see in the "from" line was "Jeff Tweedy." Nice to think I was getting a personal reply.
  20. I have two recommendations: Either go chronologically (i.e. work your way up to YHF, or else you'll probably hate it when you first hear it) Or get Kicking Television--it's kind of like a greatest hits of Wilco.
  21. I got disconnected. Sigh. No love for me. Is it too early to ask someone to post a torrent?
