  1. If those really are the best albums of the decade, then YHF should be number 1..... LouieB
  2. No and I don't want to know either..... LouieB
  3. I can't believe someone actually has a pic of this.... I think I had a copy of Howl, but was not asked to read it. I saw Ginsburg at the November 1969 Vietnam Moritorium March on Washington at the Yippies rally. As I recall he chanted with his concertina. I passed up a chance or two to see him read in his later years, which was stupid, including a date he did with Burroughs. The flats is not quite the same as it was when he wrote that poem (for long lost legendary Cleveland poet d.a. levy, by the way..which is a good topic in and of itself...if anyone is interested...) since in tho
  4. You may be correct since serveral of us recall it being the other way before Wendy dissed our reading skills... I guess if someone out there wants to still think Wilco is alt-country, so be it....was Darin Gray ever IN Gastr del Sol??? And I don't believe he is based in Chicago, but I could be wrong about this too. LouieB
  5. I suppose it is important that this was saved somewhere for posterity (I have it in a file somewhere as well) since it was deleted from here after things got hot. Whether or not Thax actually wrote it is still up for debate. Such a long time ago in pop culture time.... LouieB
  6. Whats wrong with Naked Lunch. Not for the uninitiated or squeemish for sure. LouieB
  7. You got that right. I spent the entire first chapter rewriting it as I went. Then somehow I got into the story and the horrid writing didn't seem to matter as much. Luckily it didn't take too long to read, because the writing never got better and the story was preposterous anyway. LouieB
  8. Okay so I guess in addition to everything else the Internet has done, it has made us unable to actually read.... LouieB
  9. That was certainly MY guess as well... LouieB
  10. That's nice!! As people get older they also get sentimental (I should know.) Good for them. \ (This could also lead to some good paying gigs too!!!) LouieB
  11. Maybe it is the zen theme or maybe they simply dig these guys more than we do... LouieB
  12. Yea, I do know that. I was sort of joking. Japan got it a week ago Monday, so it could have been released on the 27th right? I think I will hit Laurie's this week and pick it up. LouieB
  13. So the US gets this later than the rest of the world?? LouieB
  14. Thax and Wilco parted company some years back. No reason to rip that scab off. He is still around Chicago alot. LouieB
  15. Nice review of the new On Fillmore album (which I had no idea was even coming out...) in the Sunday NY Times. LouieB Playlist Moods Unsettling, Reflective, Eerie and Crunchy By NATE CHINEN On Fillmore All of the music on “Extended Vacation” (Dead Oceans), out on Tuesday, hews to this duo’s trademark prescriptions: slow development and spooky ambience, rooted in cycles of resonance and decay. For the members of On Fillmore — the bassist Darin Gray, an experimental-music polymath, and the percussionist Glenn Kotche, a member of the rock band Wilco — that’s an ideal as deceptively simple
  16. Yea..well...take THAT one step further... LouieB
  17. Sadly I was hoping for the REAL thing...HOw sick is that?? LouieB
  18. Ellington's music played by other artists on Riverside (in mono...) LouieB
  19. I thought the rant was funny.... and yea, I guess there is a magazine for everything. LouieB
  20. Just curious...did they fill the place up? I don't recall it being all that crowded when they played Schubas a few years back. LouieB
  21. It is truly a shame that the Charlatans never recorded a proper album during their heyday. It would have been a classic. Instead they ended up a musical footnote. Meanwhile the Dead, the Airplane and Quicksilver, among others, when on to fame and fortune. LouieB
  22. I went as Allen to Sam and Sooz's dead rock stars party....people got it right away..... LouieB
  23. Baxters is certainly the most pschycadelic, but Surrealistic Pillow is the classic. Pick any Airplane actually. LouieB
  24. I finally got around to listening to the new Scotland Yard Gospel Choir last night. I know it is sort of tacky to promote bands here, but not only is there new album really good (and better than their previous by a mile), they could sure use a hand. I guess it is common knowledge that as they were leaving on tour they had a catastrophic accident and were nearly killed. Info on this can be found any number of places including Bloodshot Records which is their label. They are on the mend as I understand it and a benefit is planned here in Chicago for the next couple weeks. But the easiest wa
  25. It is.... After confessing once I went looking for it, couldn't find it, then was talking about the NEW Jsson Molina and Will Johnston (of Centromatic since when I heard people talking about it heard Will Oldham) and I am interested in that, but can't justify buying a second Molina until I have listened to the first and went looking for it again and STILL can't find it. Gotta do a full court press. Next time I will have listened to it and venture and opinion. Considering I bought it at Pitchfork (from the label itself), it is pretty lame that I have not listened to it at all yet, or tried
