Robyn Hitchcock...Sex, Food, Drugs & Insects
LouieB replied to jimtweedy1977's topic in Someone Else's Song
I have been listening to this all morning. Not only am I struck by Dylan's influence on Robyn (obviously), but man alot of this stounds like the Decemberists, particularly Colin Meloy's singing style. LouieB -
Sounded like wishful thinking on the part of the reporter. I did read this article after seeing it referenced here. I wish someone (perhaps the foundation) would post an entire list of all the material that has been recorded as a result of this project. It is sort of difficult to tell from this article who has done (or is doing) what. LouieB

I so badly need to replace LPs and reissue CDs that I already have. I am totally unclear on why the original reissues of this material went back out of print. It seems like only yesterday these were in print and readily available. (even some of these LPs can still be had used.) I guess Robyn needs to built up his retirement fund. LouieB -

As expected, the night didn't really catch fire until the Liberation Music Orchestra led by Charlie Haden. Great stuff. The rest was okay, but rather pedestrian in many respects. 79 year old Earnestine Wilson (not even sure that is her name at the moment) had many moments. I was there with a big group of friends and family, which was fun enough. Oh well...on to some other fest....Hideout next. LouieB

Wow, I have bunches off friends who went there... Anyway. I am going tonight to the Petrillo if anyone else is there say hi. I was wondering if anyone went last night to see Medeski Martin and Wood, with John Scofield? LouieB

Wow, time to check out Neko solo disks then....her live set The Tigers have Spoken is actually a good place to start. Nice selection of her tunes, cover tunes and some great musicians. (and i was in teh audience one night...) LouieB

Aside from the Neko which I own, I need Newman and Bejar's work too I guess. LouieB

Herbie put on a interesting and diverse show last night, hitting all areas of his career, from jazz to pop to fusion. His band was up to the task and his between song banter was pretty entertaining too. Nice two and a half hour set. LouieB

With all due respect comrade, I have heard the mess that is the new Eagles song....it isn't so bad (relative to what I am not sure) and this one isn't so great. Both seem superfluous. For rider's sake, I meant absolutely nothing by that comment. LouieB

That was sort of my first thought too.. LouieB

Upon looking at the packaging after you said this, I didn't get any coupons or butts, but I did realize this wasn't for me, but addressed to my daughter Rosie (formerly Tweedy's Gurl). Guess I simply ain't in the right demographic anymore.... LouieB

I just picked up my mail and found a big old box from Camel, with a slick CD box that looks like a wallet that you open up and it has a CD in it that looks like it is sitting on a turntable (mixed metaphor much) and sure enough it is a comp of indie bands they are pushing through something called the Farm (free range music), with a slick booklet. Here is the line-up: The Silos Bayside Peel The Clutters Gore Gore Girls Bound Stems Dirty on Purpose Miss Derringer The Saturday Knights The Tossers The Architects Just as most clubs are becoming non-smoking, I guess Camel has to find a new a
