  1. Not the Big Blue vs. boy from Deliverance thread I was expecting.... LouieB
  2. Great movie.....the show at the Old Town School tonight is long since sold out, but I am going to try and cope a ticket if one gives one back to the box office. It should be a hot show. LouieB
  3. Really...everyone who is hawking these as scalpers should be ashamed of themselves....again see my link to Chicago Coalition for the Homeless.... If we have any requests...that should be the first one...that people try and treat this show with a bit of respect..... LouieB
  4. I understand why there are so many different threads for this one show. It is a big one, 10,000 people are going to view this, perhaps the largest number to ever see a Wilco show outside of one of the larger fests (okay I guess Madison Square Garden is also pretty big,) it is a benefit, rather than a regular concert, it has two different types of seating and it just seems like a big fat deal. It was sold online three different times and in person at the Vic box office as well. I am sure there will be some ticket give aways by a radio station. Also it is the only show in Chicago during any
  5. Bizzare.....I got two unidentified tickets in two different places.... LouieB
  6. There is much talk here about the upcoming Millenium Park shows and I just wanted to chime in with some info on the organization for which this show is being launched. Chicago Coalition for the homeless is a great organization that has been in existance for about three decades to deal with the issues of homelessness in Chicago. It was started by Les Brown and the mission was carried on by the late John Donahue, both of home I knew somewhat. While the Letters for Santa charity is a worthy cause, ths organization is multifacited including alot of advocacy and legal work on behalf of the homel
  7. Summerfest is always one for the record.... LouieB
  8. They will play more music and tour more as well as record some more albums.... LouieB
  9. Carrying on is okay, but frankly if you are going direct, check bags, they rarely are misplaced and trying to shlep bags onto a crowded flight is a pain in the ass. Seats on most planes are very close together and sometimes finding a place for a large carry-on can be tough. Take what you absolutely need such as meds, books, etc. and get rid of the rest. LouieB
  10. I had dinner there one time about a year ago and my son and I were the only people there. I suppose it could be an okay place (the atmosphere was nice enough, in a honky tonk kind of way.) There is alot of competition now on this stretch of Lincoln Ave to say the least. Needless to say a trip to Lauries is always in order...... LouieB
  11. Yea...that was weird. I don't know if I did that by accident or if it was closed by someone else, but I did reopen it. LouieB
  12. There are a few somewhat bad seats, but not many. It is not so deep, but it is very broad along a large stage and out to the sides. Frankly this is an okay venue. As far as sound, it should be excellent considering it has a big soundboard, lots of speakers over the lawn , designed by Frank Gehry and cost a billion fucking dollars. LouieB
  13. Harrowing is right. I expected alot about his illness, but the depth of the family's story was most difficult to watch. Definitely not feel good. Despite Roky's serious condition, he did manage to keep playing music after his hospitalization at Rusk. I know Syd Barrett put out a couple solo albums, but I think he disappeared earlier and more completely than Roky did. Not sure. By contrast Brian Wilson has been lucky I guess. LouieB
  14. Has this place reopened? I passed it the other day and it looked closed. LouieB
  15. I have yet to see the Daniel Johnson flick, but I think it is going on the Net Flix list sooner than later. I kept thinking that Syd had even a shorter career than Roky. A movie certainly is in order. Maybe someone has one in the works. LouieB
  16. Great movie.....saw it screened last night. It is less a music bio than a family personnal movie about his/their struggles with Roky's mental illness as well as their own mental health issues. Really well done. The interview conducted by the Sound Opinion guys left alot to be desired, since the director had alot of really cogent things to say when asked quesitons that had some substance. DeRogotis really seemed at his worst last night, but at least Kot asked better questions. This one is highly recommended, but very similar in style, structure and content to "Crumb" from a few years bac
  17. Not stealing cars today.... Someone beat me to this one.....I had not read this one before....pretty good review..... LouieB
  18. Albert Ayler - Witches and Devils. LouieB
  19. Judging from the Decemberist show expect the lawn to be a zoo. 7000 (is that correct??) on the lawn at Pritzger is going to be really really tight. I couldn't get on this morning and probably can't on Saturday. Luckily I have seen Wilco alot. I suspect I will just have to imagine how great a show this is and maybe travel to a different city to see them again. There appear to be lots of tickets at other venues around the country. (Come on Ft. Wayne, we are all counting on you......) Needless to say the good old days may be gone. The last time Wilco played Grant park (same basic set u
  20. Is there a password for this presale? Can someone PM me. I can't find info on that. LouieB
  21. Wow...okay....sorry....(maybe the theme songs for these threads should be "Hate It Here".) There are now countless songs, good ones too (Lust for Life is a great song....) that have been used and re-used to death. It is sort of unfortunate that this has occured, but honestly it isn't the end of the world, but it is the end of Wilco's innocence I suppose. The afformentioned song is a great tune that was written for Solomon Burke and will ever remain so, rather than the VW song. But I understand your feelings to an extent, just not as deeply as you feel it. Sure I started this thread (well
  22. Kings of Leon #16?? I saw these guys open for Dylan....once was enough... LouieB
  23. Tickets on sale this Saturday at 11 on Ticketmaster and the Vic box office......someone get me one okay??? LouieB
