  1. Clearly I was out late last night.... The impact of VU and Nico is so signficant and the number of ground breaking songs on it makes it #1. You just didn't hear songs about drug addiction and S and M before this album. Likewise White Light was the first of its kind. All the rest of "noise rock" came after. LouieB
  2. NIce meeting you too....it was nice to extend the VC connections into Indiana. I kept transversing Indiana this week, but stopping for the few hours I did, were really enjoyable. Hope something else occurs in Laffy so I can come down again. LouieB
  3. VU and Neko White Light VU Everything else after that.... LouieB
  4. It was, but very very sad and more than a bit upsetting. At a time like this you realize how many Wilco songs deal with memory, mortality and one's relationship with an ever changing and painful world. It was actually a big relief when Jeff finally talked, because I don't think alot of the audience was aware of what was going on (particularly the women a couple seats from me who kept yelling "Casino Queen".) The band was actually on fire, particularly Nels, who nailed every solo and every rave like it was his last show. I hope things go well for the rest of this leg of the tour, but it w
  5. I watched it. Just a bit soapy but other than that it seemed pretty good. LouieB

    First Show

After this you will never be able to stop...see you there (though I am not in the front row.) LouieB
  7. Back home again in Indiana. I haven't been in INdiana in quite awhile, but this week I am there three times, mostly passing through, but I did stop in Fairmount and Ft. Wayne. On to Purdue.... LouieB
  8. Forget both and come to Chicago, we have all that and more. Oh Yea...this is February we are talking about, don't come here, it sucks in February, but both Austin and LA are cool....I think Austin is easier to get around in however and probably a bit cheaper. LouieB
  9. Yea, do you want sexy alt.pop.indie country rock or crazy gay discoesque wild shit? Both sound okay... (I'll put in a vote for the SS even though I have never seen either, just to even things out..but if it were me.....) LouieB
  10. Needless to say, the entire Robinson-Berkman clan expresses their condonlences. We have been through this kind of life changing event and know the pain and grief encompased by the passing of a parent. Our thoughts are with you. 11. Sorry to leave you out......now we are four.... I just couldn't remember who chimes in on Ike...... LouieB
  12. I did not know that.....I really like the Beach Boys Christmas album (s), so for a bit I thought that's what we were talking about. (Little Saint Nick and the Man with all the Toys are two of the best contemporary Xmas songs ever.....even though I am Jewish.... ) LouieB
  13. Cool story about the fest. Like I said, I checked out his website and I am astounded at the number of gigs he has. Will check out WMNF. We have a good one here too, WLUW out of Loyola as well as WNUR out of Northwestern. If I actually do make it to the gig, I will report back so the three of us can talk about it. LouieB
  14. Yea...that was fun...... Glad you had a good time and glad I got talked into the Golden Smog.... LouieB
  15. I am glad someone posted the dates, since I have not seen him for a couple years and if I can I would like to catch him. I sent our mutual friend an email to see if he wants to go, but unlike me, he probably won't. LouieB
  16. Whoa.....this is all so boring, which is why I can't even believe I am saying this for the umpteenth time. The guy needs a band and to go on tour. Otherwise he is going to keep putting out mediocre albums for the rest of his career..... I don't even bother listening to him anymore, sadly and I like the guy. LouieB
  17. I think you and I have this conversation every time his name comes up. You are right, Salesman was his best album and he seems to have quite the following in Mn...although I am shocked to see all the places he is going on his website....bravo for Ike..... LouieB
  18. Ya know what would have been cool??? A Chipmunks Chanukah album..... LouieB
  19. Ike gets discussed periodically here. Interesting guy. He lives in the far northern suburbs of Chicago and has been trying to make it as a musician for a couple decades, spending some of his earlier years in a band called the Eisenhowers (hence the name Ike, since is real name is Mike), and working as a doorman at a downtown hotel to pay the bills for his young family. (which is how I know him since he worked with a friend who was a doorman at the same hotel.) He has had an on again off again kind of career and even now has hardly hit the bigtime. But at least he tours frequently and has
  20. Now you have to report back on how YOU felt about him. LouieB
  21. Rock and roll.....with a satiric edge. See his website for clips, etc. LouieB
  22. I checked out Ike's website today and damn, the guy has turned into a regular musician, playing tons of dates all over the country. It took him a long time, considering he is well into middle age at this point, but he finally arrived. Good for him. LouieB
  23. Yea, I have seen Bobby serveral times over the years. He is an interesting dude (I offered to drive him around to gigs one time...) and a unique talent. He always puts together interesting bands, his back-up changes regularly. Was Diana Veragona on baritone sax? LouieB
