A few days ago I managed to get the fancy ass multicolored vinyl on my turntable. Most of the album is pretty good, but I was constantly bombarded by the though that it doesn't sound like real people making music anymore. Between the heavily processed instrumentation and voices it sounds like music being made by a machine. That aside, most of the songs are pretty good, although some are less than exciting. I was reading the NY Times obits today to get caught up and noticed two notable musical deaths. The one most people caught wind of was Bob Crewe songwriter for the Four Seasons and other groups. The other was Cosimo Matassa the sound engineer for a whole raft of New Orleans R&B and other musicians. The passing of these individuals is the of an era; this one being the rise of popular music after the second world war. Reading up on both these guys is both sad and inspirational. LouieB

I am getting obsessed with the thought of the official release of this material. There is probably no other material in the Dylan archive that is of this much interest left. I think there are things which would be good to hear that have not been released, but this is the holy grail of non-released material. After all these sessions are the reason bootlegging became a big business in the first place. There may still be a few concerts which could be reasonably packaged as interesting and maybe a few outtakes from the big three album sessions, but everything else is an anticlimax after this.
