  1. I did check out Stugill Simpsons album and found it pretty good. He is trying really hard to sound like Wayon Jennings, but I suppose that is a good thing. The Old 97s has grown on me. LouieB
  2. It was a long long time ago. LouieB
  3. Well admittedly he does make some interesting points. But after years of crazy shit he has said it is hard to take this all seriously. LouieB
  4. The greatest of all one hit wonders - The Left Banke LouieB
  5. I did not watch the video, but I did read the transcript. He says liberals were right that we should not try and bring democracy to people who don't want it. That was NOT what liberals thought. What I think he is saying is that Iraq's are simply too backward and primitive to understand what we were offering them. This is called a backhanded compliment (to liberals) which is you were right, but not for tor the reason you think. He isn't saying it was wrong to have gone in and started this fucking war for the reasons the Bush/Cheney administrated stated, he is saying the left was right bec
  6. There are still several of this generation still kicking around, but they are certainly getting fewer by the year. Such is life. LouieB
  7. Being old I remember when there were still veterans of WWI still around. Now that WWII is becoming a memory, WWI is being lost in the sands of time. Those were the days when monuments were erected in memory of WWI They still dot the country, but have long since fallen into disrepair or are ignored. Meanwhile back in the land of the 100 year war with the Muslims....... LouieB
  8. I am so old I remember when New Town was the hip neighborhood. LouieB
  9. Well he has ended up in a Broadway musical. Sure wrote a lot of great songs. RIP. LouieB
  10. Wicker Park got too expensive and Pilsen hasn't been fully gentrified yet. LouieB
  11. Read between the lines. He is not exactly saying that. LouieB
  12. Of all the commemorations we have, it seems like the First World War, which started 100 years ago in July is getting short shrift. I know there have been several books published in recent years, but there seems to be little of the acknowledgement of this event at the century mark. Of course all the participants are gone, but still it seems like there should be more happening than seems to be. Or is because the USA didn't come in until later? Anything happening in Europe? Just curious. LouieB
  13. Horace was of a slightly older group than Herbie and Wayne who were mere kids when they started to record on Blue Note. Silver was certainly retired for many years. Finger Poppin may have been the first jazz LP I ever bought used in a record shop in Minneapolis. Sad. LouieB
  14. So let's see....I guess we are well into the second decade of the US of A's 100 year war with the Muslims. LouieB
  15. Who knows, but I can tell you this. The ultra LP will probably end up unplayed on my shelf for 10 years. I dunno, maybe I will crack the cellophane and put it on the turntable to see the angels. LouieB
  16. Good call on these. Although Joni certainly did have some jazz oriented material later in her career. LouieB
  17. Or just pick up a Cecil Taylor record or two. That works. LouieB
  18. I would check out Southeastern. Not necessarily sure it will do it for you, but I have only heard one other record he has one and it was uneven at best. Southeastern has stood up to repeated listenings for me, but then again I rarely relisten to anything any more. LouieB
  19. Jack is assuming, pretty much incorrectly, that most people have totally manual turntables. At least two of these features will not work I don't think unless you have a completely manual turntable, that being the files in the label and the reverse play side. Most turntables turn off when they get to the dead wax at the end of the record so they won't play this stuff. I have four turntables and all reject when then get to the end of the album. I guess I will spend some time looking at the angels and play the one song and maybe run into someone with a manual turntable someday. Also not all tu
  20. Yea I watched this and then Facebook has been flogging it too. I am not a huge fan, but I Figure for 20 bucks what the hell. LouieB
  21. Jack talked me into buying the LP. LouieB
  22. Maybe. Push on through. As far as arguing which record is better; what happened to it's all good. None of these records were made with the intention of being the best ever. They were just one more session, some of which worked out better than others needless to say. There is no question that Kind of Blue is iconic and contains timeless jams though. But Coltrane's various records with the classic quartet are also timeless, both in their recordings on Atlantic and on Impulse. LouieB
