So My British friends...who is Sir Cliff Richard?
LouieB replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I guess he is paying tribute to a guy who was an English pop star before the British invasion. Interesting. It is not a surprise that he is one of the all time biggest record sellers. LouieB -

Miles Davis Kind of Blue 50th Anniversary Collector

Indeed they are. Both the Atlantic and Impulse era records are worth the time. In fact any Coltrane is worth the time. LoueiB -
When you think about it they could all make a pretty good band. Nuge and the Nutty Women. Guitar, drums and a couple pretty good singers. (I bet someone could play the bass) I just wouldn't want to be in the audience that's all. LouieB

This may be the hottest story on the net at the moment. Pretty pathetic. LouieB

I will probably go too. I wonder if this precludes the Hideout show. LouieB

Yea, I mentioned that in another thread and was also informed that I was wrong that he HAD played with EDD. He does a great job with Langford and people should catch the tour if you can and if they are still on the road. And again, I highly recommend the Horses Ha CD. And the new Langford. Elkington has been a staple in Chicago musical circles for many years and can be seen regularly playing with a variety of groups. LouieB

I think I participated in this event last year as part of a team for my niece's mother-in-law who passed away last year. I am guessing we will do the same this year. LouieB

I'm guessing the second. I had a discussion with a friend last week about this album which he likes a lot. We contrasted it to the new Bobby Bare Jr. (which I have not yet heard) which is apparently about his marriage which broke up. I suppose it is fine for middle aged happily married guys to be imagining what is still like to be single and reckless. I guess I need to listen to it a few more times and suspend a bunch of disbelief and just go with it. Nothing wrong with having an active imagination if it all works out. I am thinking of getting a ticket to see them this June at Park West. Any

Yea, I think I did. Somehow as I have said in the past, that doesn't seem to be enough incentive to go for this, although I sure do like having the records of tours I managed to get to. The George Harrison show was about that same time and at the same venue. LouieB

Kind of amazing. 40 years on. I think I saw this tour, but not sure. Seems about the right time. All four were in the group at Chicago Stadium. LouieB

William Onyeabor is all the rage these days. And the reissue of his work is very good. LouieB

Hopefully going to see Two Cow Garage later tonight. See if I can make it. Saw Robbie Fulks and a pick up band do the Basement Tapes on Monday. That was crazy fun. LouieB

There was an article about this record in the NY Times this weekend I think. I also got the newly released Hank Williams The Garden Spot Programs 1950. I figure this is a good pairing. LouieB

Gonna check this one out. LouieB

Its a great album but from last year. I still play it though. LouieB

I have only listened to this LP once so far and I just don't quite get it. Aren't these guys middle aged family guys? Nothing wrong with getting drunk and screwing I guess, but I just don't believe it. I am having trouble suspending my disbelief. I am sure the new material is fun live since the band is always fun live. LouieB

Okay, not bad. But do we really need Sujfan twice? Once is more than enough. LouieB

Boy Crazy. The one you mention is a full length. This is only 4 songs. LouieB

As mentioned in another post about her, check out the EP that came out just before it. Coupled together she is a gigantic hot mess if it is true, which I think it is not. LouieB

Lydia Loveless. I have listened to the new Old 97s once. Hasn't grabbed me yet. LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Bumping this, although it doesn't really need it. since this was first posted, Chicago's options have expanded in regards to clubs, restaurants, theaters, other music venues and even the size and scope of music events. This summer promises to be one of the greatest yet with stellar line-ups at Pitchfork, Riot Fest, Millennium Park (both free and paid), neighborhood fests, etc. Please come on here and make suggestions for others. I am getting a bit old to stay on top of every new joint that opens, but I know others do: so please tell us what you enjoyed and what you didn't. I know there are -
Indeed. I remember listening to it for the first time back when it came out and being astounded. I recently re-watched the movie and enjoyed that too. I think the Who's over exposure in recent decades as blunted the impact their music had. Pete Townsend now gets short shrift as one of the great visionaries and innovators (genius), but what he did was pretty amazing actually. LouieB

Jul 2: Nels Cline & Julian Lage Nighttown Cleveland, OH This should be strange. Nighttown is an old fashioned supper club/restaurant/nightclub in Cleveland Heights. LouieB
