  1. I've had it on nonstop for the past week, and it's kinda hard to for it to "sink in" for me. I may have to put it away for a week or so then get it back out again. It has a lot of depth and beautiful sounds inside its rather sparse overall feel. I agree with the comments about the strong lyrics, which also makes it a little harder to absorb right away. SW was very immediate for me Maybe the surprise "blast" of the record helped that - no hype, no 1 or 2 songs dribbled out early, no preconceptions based on media, etc. This one is certainly a record that takes a little more time to absor
  2. Deeeeelightful recount of our beloved recounter. There's nothing anonymous about the bbop. Although the BOB alias might just stick...
  3. carleiu, on 06 Sept 2016 - 02:39 AM, said: I agree. First listen in the record store really made me think of that comment. Common Sense was the standout track for me today. That's bound to change, but I thought it was the most interesting track musically.
  4. Small-ish crowd at our local store (CD Central in Lexington), around 10-12 of us, but I ran into a couple old friends who used to haunt the VC back in the day. The store had a very high end turntable which certainly did a nice job but who really needs a $4000 turntable.... really. And I won the gum, so there's that. Oh, and the record is quite good.
  5. I really think that Sky Blue Sky holds that title over Summerteeth.
  6. I was pleasantly surprised that we'll have one at our one-and-only record store here in Lexington. 6 PM Tues, which is a pretty convenient time for me. I suspect it'll be a very small crowd but that'll still be fun.
  7. I'm planning on going to a local record store listening party on Tuesday, and I'll refrain from getting it till then. I suspect they'll be selling the CDs then too. And then I can post in that other thread.
  8. Today I cancelled my landline phone. We've had the same phone number for the past 25 years.... but nostalgia just isn't worth $37/month these days, so the cord has been cut.
  9. Great read, part II. heh. that's pretty much spot on for us... I swear I did not do this.
  10. Also on Spotify now. I also dislike hearing the songs one at a time. I prefer the SW approach of all at once. But that hasn't stopped me from listening to all three of these, of course. Zero willpower when it comes to new Wilco music. Sigh.
  11. Yes, it's nice to see some press once again. Really enjoyed this article. I'm curious how the live show arrangements will change based on this. Now it makes more sense why they're doing 2 and 3 night shows and the extended Fillmore run out west, to work out the changes in the set. I for one would love to see some of the quieter songs come back... Muzzle of Bees, Dash 7, One Sunday Morning... to name a few. Oh, and Bull Black Nova still fits on any setlist for any kind of show. The acoustic version of that is definitely a silent assassin.
  12. "Half of it's you, and half is me." It's so simple & straightforward a comment on (any) relationship, but still a line that seems to have other meanings when I hear it in some other frame of mind. And the musical meandering right after that line gives it such a nice moment to sink in and roll around in my head. Love that...
  13. Well Dag, you had your chance... sorry you couldn't join too. You (we) would have enjoyed the whole evening. And yes, I think that's me with the goofy smile in the bottom. That's my "Wilco contentment" look. Fred, thanks for that. I try to be a bit discreet. Most folks are more curious about what it says than they are annoyed. I agree it was a good crowd in our area. Sorry I didn't introduce myself... I really need to do that more at shows... lots of VC folks who I would/should meet in person. I think we need some way to identify ourselves.. maybe radiatortunes can design us a VC pi
  14. I was fortunate enough to have a much better vibe over on the Pat side of the stage. Lotta dancing, almost everyone standing and no sit/stand tension at all, some pogo-ing (OK, that was me), no talkers. Limited selfies, although the guy behind me had his phone brightness set on "outdoor" quite a bit. Had one random guy in the aisle who had the Willie Nelson braided pigtails and bandana, sans the facial hair, and he was having a blast. We got along well. Ended up seeing him down the street later, and he's a long-time Phish fan and relative newcomer for the Wilco's. The stage on the AD sid
  15. Yup. I had to go back to using safari on my phone. Not sure what the deal is.
  16. OK, getting down to the wire here... any offers? I'll split up the 4 as needed. I can meet you at the venue, or probably at Euclid records ahead of the show too.
  17. I have a single ticket for the orchestra pit sec 5 (Pat side) available for $87 (face+fees). PM or post here. Vince
