Louisville shows never get much posting on this board. Strange. Fun set in a great venue, with a great crowd, and great company for the evening. Nice extended hootenanny at the end. Despite my enthusiasm and imploring to hear "Bull Black Nova", it was once again omitted from the setlist. Yeah, I admit I was a bit letdown after all the buzz about the STL show and then having a more straightforward setlist last night. And my most recent Wilco shows before last night were at Winterlude which are not really a fair comparison to any given single-night "on tour" show, especially a city like Cincy where (I think) they haven't played a non-festival / non-Americanarama 'regular' show in a long time. These guys are good. Solid show last night. Pretty standard "20th" tour setlist, as things are unfolding so far. A few observations and some banter recollection... The band came on at a couple minutes after 9 and played till 1115. Less Than You Think is a great opener. The drone was rather short, and I could have used way more of that. Three of the opening 5 songs (Hummingbird, Panthers, and Camera) were guitar-less for Jeff. Odd. It was a good 6 or 7 songs in before Jeff had anything to say. I was listening to the live version of Impossible Germany from AMF, and then the version from the roadcase from Winterlude night 6 which was just last December. They're very different creatures.

I don't remember ever having front row seats in a seated venue for anything. I've had second row (Wilco, David Byrne/St. Vincent, Randy Newman), third, etc, but never front row. I've been on the rail for GA for Wilco recently and for lots of others back in my younger days. I definitely agree with the "sound is better if you're back a little" point. I do like being close enough to feel like I'm "at" the show rather than just "watching" the show. So I prefer close over perfect sound most of the time. ^ same here. It's 15 hours total from here (Lexington), so I'd like to get to within 3 hours or so on Thursday, then drive up early Friday and be there by noon. Something like Syracuse or Utica.

Those are all very nice fruits to choose from. Perhaps a chronological ranking would make a good follow up thread.

The event yesterday was pretty interesting. Glenn did give a short talk about John Luther Adams' music (he wrote Ilimaq for Glenn, which will be released later this year). The musical performance itself was a 70 minute percussion piece called "Inuksuit" which was performed by 66 percussionists outdoors spread over a large area on campus near the student center. The music itself was a very spatial piece, with lots of sounds ranging from drums and cymbals and gongs to bells and sirens and vuvuzela's to every sort of clanging object imaginable. I agree, and I do hope you'll let me buy you a beer! I don't need to weigh in on the whole Indiana legislation thing, but I do want to say something about Wilco. This is a band who has proven their affection, respect, and concern for their fans for 20 years. I believe any informed person would draw that conclusion, certainly any of us here for more than a few posts. I cannot imagine that this cancellation was something that they took lightly. If they (collectively, I assume) felt that the impact to their beloved fans was outweighed by impact they felt they could make by this statement,

today, I got in a van at a hotel which took me to an airport. I got on a plane which took me to another airport. I waited in line to go through customs. I got on a train which took me to a station. I got on a shuttle bus which took me to a place, where I did something. I got on a subway, which took me to a different station. I got on a different train which took me to an even different station. I walked from the station to get in another very long line to go through customs. I walked from customs to yet another customs, and waited in line again. This is generally way outside my wheelhouse, but I kinda like it.

At the time (late 70's), it was hearing Kansas play "Carry On Wayward Son". I was a big Kansas fan in HS. Looking back, it was probably hearing the Stones open up with "Under My Thumb" in 1981. That was a pretty big deal.
