  1. My Amazon pre-order finally arrived yesterday evening.... Amazon "guaranteed" delivery by 8PM... the UPS guy showed up at 7:30. sigh. Well worth the wait though. I saw Tweedy live in June, which was the only time I've heard these songs before today. I'm glad I saw them live, even with the unfamiliar material. It was sort of a big listening party which was cool. But the songs didn't really blow me away, and I found myself wanting to hear Jeff play all the guitar parts rather than the guys he brought along (all of whom were quite capable, of course... but not Jeff). And Jeff stayed on ac
  2. Today I got a flu shot. Now I feel like crap.
  3. Great interview... felt like you channeled the whole VC board.
  4. Nice. I found this a little ironic: Live stream of Tweedy concert at BAM, part of Nonesuch Records at BAM. The show starts at 9pm EST. - See more at: http://www.bam.org/TweedyLive#sthash.Vr1xSNgo.dpuf
  5. Nice read. thanks for posting. Loved this quote:
  6. That's who I thought of when I saw this thread. "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" with Brian Eno and the "Love This Giant" collaboration with St. Vincent are excellent records. I loved all his work in Talking Heads (and still do), but I really think that those two records are "essential" to his music catalog. He's really someone who's moved forward and stayed interesting. Another one who I really admire and enjoy throughout his career is Joe Jackson. "Night Music" and "Heaven & Hell" were done in his 40's (OK, technically not eligible for this thread), and those are two of
  7. My daughter and I gave the record half a spin in the car yesterday. She is (was) a huge U2 fan, but neither one of us found this new one to be very interesting at first (half) listen. Will try again but not optimistic.
  8. So, not exactly on the radio, but I did win a Califone poster and CD from the venue where they are playing (and I am going!) tonight, for propagating social media about the show on the facebook, which I am happy to do for Califone. I never win anything!! This is like a major award in my world.
  9. Well, there you go.... night 3 on 10/30 posted on FB just now. Presale: 9/9 @ 10am. On sale: 9/10 @ 12pm.
  10. The tickets for the Ryman say 7:30... if it's an 11:00 curfew and an "Evening With" format.... then I have some serious wishful thinking.
  11. Has anything from W(TA) showed up on this mini tour yet? I'm really hoping bull black nova makes its way back into rotation.
  12. I was in need of a really rockin show this time, and this one really nailed it. Definitely a show to shake the rust off. Glen was a beast all night. Jeff played a lot of electric guitar, more than usual. It was my daughter's first Wilco show, so she definitely got the full rocker version. Not a lot of banter, and I thought Jeff (and all of the guys) looked pretty focused and serious all night. It took probably 8 or 9 songs before even a "howyadoin?". Jeff asked if we wanted him to check on us more often. He offered to talk more (mixed responses), and said he would tell us a joke but h
  13. Nice.... mine tend to work the opposite where I'm out of town when something great happens close to home. Good seats at the Ryman are a thing of beauty. I agree with DownUp that the Balcony is really nice there. The wings / sides are really, really on the side and can be awkward sight lines. And the lower level seats that are tucked back under the balcony (~row P and back) are pretty crowded by the low balcony. So, yeah, there are some bad seats, IMO. But if you avoid those, you'll love it.
  14. No complaints here.... Section 5 Row D for both nights at the Ryman. Multiple attempts and a couple throwbacks, but well worth the anxiety.
  15. I am enjoying this one quite a bit. "You Tell Me Where" is a blast. Helluva closer...
  16. Today I received an email reminder about my tickets to the upcoming wilco concert NEXT WEDNESDAY in Columbus. It was quite possibly the best part of my day. Words cannot describe how much I need a wilco concert.
  17. I liked the new guy. Not my favorite episode, but I think he'll be a good one.
  18. Other than one live show in June, I'm waiting for the record. Lousy at diets, btw.
  19. If it's covers, I don't really care unless it's really distracting. If it looks like you're reading a book while you're singing, yeah that's distracting. If it's your own material, then I expect you to know the words since it's supposedly something meaningful / emotional, etc. For the record - If you're Bruce Springsteen and you have a zillion songs and play different songs every set and you're 64 years old and still play for 3 hours... then you get a pass in my book and you can do whatever the hell you want as long as you show up within a couple hours of my house every so often. Since
  20. Bahamas (Alfie Jurvanen) was announced as the opener for Wilco for the 2 Ohio shows. I suppose it was a little overly optimistic to hope for an "evening with" format for their first live full-band shows in ALMOST ONE YEAR. And I think we're about to the point where there won't be any more shows announced to go along with these. There's only a tiny little window of time from the end of Aug till mid Sept when everybody in the band is free. Maybe they'll squeeze in another show or two, but it seems it's getting kinda late. So, I anxiously await Columbus... less than 3 weeks away!
  21. View this email in your browser Wilco's back and getting together for two shows in Ohio this September ahead of their Lockn' Festival gigs in Virginia. They will be in Columbus on Sept. 3 and play their first-ever show in Akron on Sept. 4. On sale for these Ohio shows is tomorrow at 10 am ET (8/1). As always check wilcoworld.net for more info. Also in September: TWEEDY releases its debut album Sukierae on dBpm Records. TWEEDY is a duo featuring Jeff and his 18-year old son Spencer and Sukierae features 20 new Jeff Tweedy-penned tunes. The album's available for pre-order now (buy it in t
  22. I remember that each of the guys got a personalized Louisville Slugger when they played Slugger field in Louisville a few years ago. Glen used two of them for his rock star pose before ITMWLY. They all seemed pretty stoked about it. Never saw this pic before. Nice!
