  1. The event yesterday was pretty interesting. Glenn did give a short talk about John Luther Adams' music (he wrote Ilimaq for Glenn, which will be released later this year). The musical performance itself was a 70 minute percussion piece called "Inuksuit" which was performed by 66 percussionists outdoors spread over a large area on campus near the student center. The music itself was a very spatial piece, with lots of sounds ranging from drums and cymbals and gongs to bells and sirens and vuvuzela's to every sort of clanging object imaginable. It was kinda weird, kinda cool, and very interes
  2. Apparently Kotche is in my very own city this weekend. http://www.kentucky.com/2015/04/10/3794025/uk-percussion-groups-30th-anniversary.html
  3. I think we've had this conversation before.
  4. Bull Black Nova Bull Black Nova Bull Black Nova
  5. I agree, and I do hope you'll let me buy you a beer! I don't need to weigh in on the whole Indiana legislation thing, but I do want to say something about Wilco. This is a band who has proven their affection, respect, and concern for their fans for 20 years. I believe any informed person would draw that conclusion, certainly any of us here for more than a few posts. I cannot imagine that this cancellation was something that they took lightly. If they (collectively, I assume) felt that the impact to their beloved fans was outweighed by impact they felt they could make by this statement,
  6. today, I got in a van at a hotel which took me to an airport. I got on a plane which took me to another airport. I waited in line to go through customs. I got on a train which took me to a station. I got on a shuttle bus which took me to a place, where I did something. I got on a subway, which took me to a different station. I got on a different train which took me to an even different station. I walked from the station to get in another very long line to go through customs. I walked from customs to yet another customs, and waited in line again. I got in a taxi which took me to another hotel.
  7. I believe the correct form of the question should be: "What's a 'Wilco'"?
  8. No, really, it's all the rage over here. I heard Kanye's doing one on his next record.
  9. This is generally way outside my wheelhouse, but I kinda like it.
  10. At the time (late 70's), it was hearing Kansas play "Carry On Wayward Son". I was a big Kansas fan in HS. Looking back, it was probably hearing the Stones open up with "Under My Thumb" in 1981. That was a pretty big deal.
  11. Octavia! A little something for us Kentucky folks to share in the festivities.
  12. Last night's "Album of the Year" award going to Beck is only the third time this century that I have actually owned the album which won. It's possibly the first time that one of my favorite artists won that award since 1968's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
  13. Since we're running out of time to play "guess the lineup", here's mine. In addition to the Wilco’s and TWEEDY and all the side projects... The top 4 that I fully expect to be there : - Richard Thompson - Jim Campilongo Trio - Cibo Matto - Lucius The top 4 realistically possible that I would really like to be there : - William Tyler - Califone - Yo La Tengo - Andrew Bird The top 4 “in my dreams” but not totally out the realm of possibility : - Joe Jackson - The New Pornographers - St. Vincent - Beck
  14. Does anyone have the TM or LiveNation presale PW for Cincy? There is a LiveNation presale for Indy Murat (PW = BEATBOX) Thursday at 10:00, but I haven't seen anything for Cincy.
  15. conversation with my wife at breakfast this morning... me: Hey honey, the Wilco's are going to be in Louisville in May, and tickets are going on sale today. Do you want to go with me? Mrs: I thought you were going to see them up at that museum thing this summer? me: Well, yeah. Mrs: So you're going to both of them? me: Umm, yeah. And there's also one in Cincy that same week in May. Mrs: I thought you said you were going to the one in Louisville? me: I'm pretty sure I'll go to both of the ones here too, plus the museum thingie. Mrs: Oh, OK. I'd rather go to the Louisville one. I like
  16. Yeah, the Louisville pre-sale was much kinder than the Cincy one. I got 3rd row on the Pat/John side (sec 3) near the middle. Will have to wait for Friday to try Cincy, although LiveNation may have a presale
  17. Here's some New England tour vibes for you from Kentucky!!
