  3. how bout you start a list of all the countries you have been to and then when someone replies they add countries to the list.
  4. they also supposedly owe a hairstylist $4,000 for special ordered hair extensions. that long blonde hair of hers isn't hers.
  5. When I bought my MINI it was a no-pressure experience, but the salesman was definitely on commission. The catch is they pretty much have to special order the car / have a waiting list because they only manufacture so many a year, so that means everyone pays the same price or doesn't get a car. at least at the dealership I went to. I watched a guy try to finagle money off his purchase price and over and over again the salesman told him the price is what it is. also NEVER try to purchase a MINI in July or August. You won't be able to. They close the factory for the month of August and don't take
  6. I just finished Ghost Map. It was ok. A bit too much interjection, opinion, and repetitiveness for my taste. The epilogue was too much. Fascinating stuff about the conditions of London in the 1800s though. onto this one: that's on my reading list!
  7. Be warned...a lot of places are closed on Sundays AND Mondays.
  8. there are two things i don't like about my iphone: the M key is too close to the backspace key it is on the AT&T network. beyond that I love it. I traded an LG Dare in for it (and chose the LG Dare over the Blackberry Storm because the storm seemed very clunky, the touch screen to be awkward, and the interface made no sense to me. I have no regrets about making the switch from verizon and the LG Dare to the iPhone. the iPhone makes up in leaps and bounds for the lacking in the network.
  9. most women soccer players have better legs than that. i'm not sure if it was because of a choppy stream or the clips were shown in slow motion, but a lot of stuff gets missed by refs because it happens so quickly and the position of the center ref is usually not very close to defenders. and for some very stupid lame reason refs don't issue red cards to women the way they do to men. stuff that happens away from the ball and play always seems to get missed because the linesman and ref are focused on other things going on. of course it is all still very inexcusable. but it happens and probably
  10. That book has somehow become the "bible" of the Museum world. I keep being told by directors and department heads to read it. I haven't read it though.
  11. His sisters...what about his children...her now step-children.
  12. me too on this one. i made it through the whole book, based on a recommendation of someone saying it was their favorite. yeah, NO. i was not a fan and did not find the humor in it either.
  13. I am SO glad this made it in at the top of the thread. I made it to page 20 of this and HAD to put it down because the writing was so horrid.
  14. someone stopped me today and asked what my plates meant. when i told the girls, they cheered with glee and giddiness. i don't think they actually knew the reference, but were instead just happy to have deciphered the plates.
  15. "Dore said he and his bride are from the same village, and he waited for her to grow up. "I didn't force her, but used my experience to convince her of my love, and then we agreed to marry," he said. "
  16. I heard Snapple and Urban Outfitters are ultra-conservative.
  17. It was one of the few things I missed when I became a vegetarian. even more than bacon.
  18. yes. i was trying to be nice and not rain on the parade of the Bill Bryson fans. i recall a follow-up conversation that went something like this: "oh, look at the light. wow, there's just something about it in this place. it's beautiful." "[mocking] oh the light...you're not the first one to notice that...you really should read that book..."
  19. We're both complete freaks then! I've read several books on the history of diseases, rats, and lots of other stuff (I call it random because when you go in a book store, you have to track these books down, there really should be a section titled "random history" to make it easier. ) the map that was drawn and helped detect the source of the outbreak is often used as an example of good information design in design schools and classes.
  20. I know the artist that made the artwork featured on the cover of that book. I designed a book of his work and own a couple of pieces of his art. amazing guy. He is schizophrenic and has severe OCD, but overcame his demons and has made quite the successful inspiring life for himself. He is a fascinating person.
