John's a much better singer then he use to be, could never get on with his Gram Parsons impression on the AM version
-
I like it, It is repetitive but it makes it feel really good when the vocals kick in. It kinda reminds me of We Laugh Indoors, mood wise I thought Plans was really great actually but I do welcome their return to the cool sonic landscapes and long songs
-
thanks Blureu, Ive been dying to hear something, can't believe they are releasing an 8 minute single, do you think they will cut the first half out for the single version??
-
Theres a sound he makes, Its hard to descibe but im sure you know what I mean its like a warble but it sounds slightly electronic and glichy too, Neil Young gets it sometimes too I'll check that out Reflected, I have a T-Rex Mudhoney that does the Crazy Horse thing spot on but I want something alot more fuzzy, with no bass whatsoever, like Syd Barrett Interstellar Overdrive I was thinking of getting an EQ pedal and using it to cut all the bass out of my signal, along with the rex it could do the trick
-
Notice he uses 2 Holy Grails, one on his main board and one thats linked to a volume pedal, I guess thats for those reverb swells he likes with acoustics I still desperately want that Tweedy lead tone on AGIB, trouble is I have a feeling it might have less to do with his gear and more to do with his hands that first photo on wilcoworld looks like Pat has quite the selection of pedals too, and John, I never understand why bass players would need lots of pedals??

Does anyone know where I can find the video of I'm A Wheel from ACL a while back, I think this was one of the first things I saw of Wilco and remember it being great

Planet Waves make some kind of Hippy/60s throwback ones

I was there on the 5th, without a doubt the best show I have ever seen, he really still nails it..he didnt say alot either, apart from a story about meeting Jesus outside the venue in the 70s haha! -
I think its a good thing he doesnt, whenever Ryan Adams does it, as good as his intentions may be it never works out well for him.

(((Blood On The Tracks))) the breakup thread
FourStrongWinds replied to Jaymie's topic in Someone Else's Song
All great songs mentioned here, I will add however Joni Mitchell's 'A Case Of You' what a painful painful piece of art, aswell Graham Nash's 'Simple Man', I always thought this song was a little naff, and lyrically a bit cliche, infact I think it might be one of the most honest, plain, breakup songs ever I just wanna hold you, I dont wanna hold you down I love that line -
CAN are awesome, how is Glenn connected to Krautrock??
-
I've heard people call Radiohead pretentious but never Wilco and I really dont feel there are any similarities between them, not musically anyway, maybe the way they approach it. I own all the Radiohead records and i appreciate what they do but they do leave me a little cold, I think there is alot more warmth to Jeff and Wilco

well, i would say buy another Epi if you liked it. failing that maybe get a tele or a tele deluxe with humbuckers
-
i think the pickgaurds are there more cos they look really cool, i love these guitars, never played one mind i guess if they were designed for folk singers, in the 60s, they may have thought they would need to beat the hell out of them in coffee houses without mics or pickups etc
-
its got to be Joni's 'Blue' surely, 'A Case Of You', is about as sad as music gets in my opinion, also Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners for the other side of the same break-up
-
no it just makes me laugh when people say, yeah so and so is my top 20 this year, even 10. i suppose its cos i mostly buy old records or just things that are a few years old i havnt heard yet and only about 5-10 new releases each year.
-
do people really listen to 40 new albums a year??
-
i dont think im too cool to wear earplugs, i just dont like the way they make things sound, though i think i will pick up some hearoes and see how i get on
-
i like his music alright, but i read an interview with him and he seemed like a bit of a tool
-
we have 2 singers in our band and its split pretty much 50/50 so i was thinking maybe ill get some and just take them out for the tunes i have to sing i guess then im saving my ears a little bit at least
-
our bassist wears some, with filters and stuff and he reckons if you leave them in for a while before playing your ears adjust to the lack of high end and kind of EQ themselves
-
alot of people have told me i should be wearing earplugs and ive usually kinda brushed off the idea but last band practice my ears were really hurting, we had a show the next night and again more pain. my problem with wearing them is everything is muffled and i find it hard to sing with them in anyone else have this problem??

unlike alot of their fans, i dig Plans, i dont get how you can not like it if you like Trans and the songwriting is flawless every tune is infectious, hoorah for DCFC on his blog Walla said the new record sounds like CAN, im excited -
well i tried putting pencil lead in there, and (touch wood) it seems to be better. ill play it alot today and see how it works out then try and your method if its still sticking
