  1. I remember buying the RHP Rollercoaster CD back in the 90s, and digging its sad, autumnal vibe. Was particularly fond of Grace Cathedral Park and Katy Song. For some reason though, I never checked out Down Colorful Hill or the other self-titled record until many years later. At the time I was more enamored with the other San Francisco "sadcore" band, American Music Club. A few years later I did get back into them for a bit, buying Ocean Beach, then Old Ramon. Haven't listened to any of those records in a very long time. Curious to see how well they hold up. I know what you mean regarding the
  2. Indeed. Being in my 40s, I think his songs probably hit a bit closer to home than they would've 10 years ago. The record with Desertshore and the one with Jimmy LaValle are both quite good, definitely worth getting. I need to give those another spin soon.
  3. Me too. His songs of recent years have been dense with personal details and poignant storytelling. He's certainly one of the most compelling and interesting songwriters out there right now.
  4. My first ever concert was Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour.
  5. I've been watching the push for Harry in the Hall over the past year. It's a shame that he still isn't getting recognized. The people picking and voting on these things don't instill me with a lot of faith. Another one that keeps getting ignored is Warren Zevon. One could make a pretty good list of oversights.
  6. First listen to this. Pretty good so far. Touches of Krautrock, World Music, Psychedelia and just enough pop sensibility to hold it together.
  7. It kinda does. I only made it through 3 tracks before giving it a pass for now.
  8. First amp I ever played through was an old Traynor amp the drummer of my first band let me use. Ha, just found a picture of one: After a few months using that, I bought a Peavey Backstage Plus, which I had for a few years. Eventually I had to get a bigger amp as the gigs got bigger.
  9. Here's my wild stab at it: AL Wildcard: Astros vs. Yankees (Astros) ALDS: Blue Jays vs. Rangers (Blue Jays in 4) ALDS: Astros vs. Royals (Royals in 5) ALCS: Blue Jays vs. Royals (Blue Jays in 6) NL Wildcard: Cubs vs. Pirates (Cubs) NLDS: Cubs vs. Cardinals (Cubs in 5) NLDS: Dodgers vs. Mets (Dodgers in 5) NLCS: Dodgers vs. Cubs (Cubs in 7) WS: Blue Jays vs. Cubs (Blue Jays in 6)
  10. Digging the '60s and early '70s rock 'n' roll vibe of this one.
  11. I like this idea. There are so many crucial games today. Going to be closely watching the Rangers, Angels, and Astros. As a Toronto guy, I'll be closely watching the Blue Jays and Royals games. I know neither game is make or break, but hoping for a Jays win/Royals loss so the Jays get home field advantage in the playoffs.
  12. I've got this set too. Watched the first 2 ages ago, will be the first time seeing the 3rd one though.
  13. Saw them last week in Toronto. They did a killer cover of The Smiths "How Soon Is Now".
  14. I'm guessing the original poster is fishing for a price to attach to it on eBay, or maybe they're hoping someone here is going to put in an offer.
  15. Pretty enjoyable set. It was nice to finally hear the Star Wars tracks live.
  16. Planning on seeing Wilco, Lucinda Williams and Jim Bryson at the Toronto Urban Roots Festival today. Haven't seen Wilco since the Dylan tour. Looking forward to hearing the new songs live.
  17. Tonight: Built to Spill, Cold Specks and Desaparecidos
  18. I did surprisingly. The problem with some of the questions is more than one answer can apply. I did the test a second time and got John.
  19. Of the ones you haven't heard yet, I'd go with these 3 first: Being There, Anodyne and Born Again in the USA. Then Mermaid Avenue (the first one.)
  20. The Jays pitching has had some issues for sure, but the addition of Price, and now with Stroman back in the line-up, they're looking fairly good. R.A. Dickey has improved significantly over the season too, winning 7 of his last 8 games. Of course the Jays monster run production helps compensate on those days when the pitching isn't quite there. The Yankees on the other hand don't look all that strong at the moment, despite their record, they've been wildly inconsistent. They'll have to be careful, they definitely don't have their wild card slot in the bag yet. At the moment I think the Jays
  21. 2 of the top 3 teams in the American League are in that "mediocre" division for what it's worth.
