  1. Oh my God! Bad memories flooding back!
  2. Since I haven't seen that or Dumbo in so long, I can barely remember anything about the actual movies. Just hating them. I was very young when I saw them, though - five for both. I do remember Pinocchio hopelessly confusing me about what a conscience was.
  3. Me too. I hated Pinocchio as a little kid. I probably haven't seen it in twenty years - I wonder if I'd feel differently as an adult. (Also hated: Dumbo.)
  4. Full disclosure: I haven't read through this thread, and I read the book a couple of years ago. But! One of my favorite things about it, which has endured, was teaching me more about architectural history and architects themselves. I like randomly recognizing the names and work of people I first learned about in the book. I learned that one of the libraries in my hometown was designed by Burnham: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/618663 When I was a kid I just thought it was a cool old building, but now it's like, "Ooooh, I see." And I was at Biltmore earlier this year and read that th
  5. What in the world would they do if the game were rained out?
  6. Maybe the other groups' Living Room shows are on Owl & Bear, but 4/8/06 is the only SnS show you'd have up there.
  7. The show from 2006 is in circulation - that was the year we had a big fancy sound setup. I'm not sure if it's currently up in any of the usual locations, but it was torrented and all.
  8. That's awesome, Eric! The atmosphere at Miller Park on Saturday will sure be something.
  9. http://www.superschein.com/sneakpeak/AlwaysinLoveNJ.wav For Natalie.
  10. Earlier this year at the Hotel S 'n' S basement show, Dreamin' Judy requested "Always in Love" in Natalie's honor. From the link below you can hear the dedication and the song (and the encouragement to throw in a little profanity.) May I suggest you join us in singing along loudly if you're listening at home? http://www.superschein.com/sneakpeak/AlwaysinLoveNJ.wav Happy birthday, Nat. Things aren't the same without you.
  11. Nice job, Green Bay! I'll be seeing the Magnetic Fields in Madison that night.
  12. I got a 15. I guess I'm no graphic designer!
  13. After seeing them this August, I couldn't get Oliver James out of my head for days.
  14. As you might imagine, this didn't make me sad. Neko mentioned at the Madison show that Kelly became a Wisconsinite in May. I wonder where she moved?
  15. I think it was actually two Fleet Foxes trading off. The drummer, and someone else. The sound on this is great. VOTE!
  16. Oooh. I just requested it from the library. Thanks, Maudie!

    Rumor

I have no idea whether Jeff played anything, but there was a fundraiser for Kawasaki Disease at Phyllis's yesterday. Spencer Tweedy's band Tullymonster was scheduled to perform.
  18. Yep, see this account of Glenn and the Kronos Quartet performing at Ravinia on 9/3, and this one from the first time they performed together last fall. The Zankel Hall show should be great. (Astute readers will note that it's the same night as Neil Young's second Toronto show.)
  19. Hopefully Lou, Allison, Paul, and maybe Cathy and Magee will chime in here. I thought it was an excellent show, but I feel spectacularly unqualified to give any sort of review of a classical concert. My favorite piece may have been the first one they played. David Harrington attributed it to an anonymous Iraqi composer, saying they'd been asked to play it at the Republican convention. As the laughter died down he added, "It's called, Oh Mother, the Handsome Man Tortures Me." I also liked a Serbian piece they played toward the end, hold me, neighbor, in this storm. And of course, Anomaly w
  20. Happy birthday, Johnny! I hope it's a great day.
  21. Oh dear. I think I remember that one. Is Highlander still in syndication somewhere?
