  1. Agree. HMD is "out of place" on YHF, but it always gets the crowd going at every live show. To say that Wilco fans hate HMD is ridiculous.
  2. Like a good wine (or scotch), it'll be worth the wait.
  3. Well I spend the first 6 weeks of 2009 estranged from my family...but we reunited on 2/12, and so far it's been a happy story. Meaning, the last 2 weeks have been better...and 2009 is looking up. http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=38893
  4. In case anyone was wondering, my SO and I are on the mend. We're back together, still doing counselling, the kids are in better shape, and things are looking up in general. The split lasted about 6 weeks and it was rough on everyone. As a strange bonus, while we were on the outs Lisa started listening to Wilco. She plays YHF and some of my Aud's, a lot..!! I'm still working too much and stressed, but anyway, onward and upward as they say.

  6. After a few more weeks of hindsight this should officially be updated to "sophisticated crookedness", no? A-greed.
  7. Me First And The Gimme Gimmes? But yeah, my pick would definitely be Wilco.
  8. Sweet. Let's hope they bring the house down like in past Conan appearances. Err, WTF. This video is now "not available in my country". :-(
  9. Will that be the title of the new album?
  10. I like that.....looking forward to this dvd, big time. Too bad about the 2 month delay tho. Ugh
  11. Yup. Plus the people in developing countries have a massive currency exchange advantage.......$3/hour for someone in Bangalore = quite a lot of rupees. (to generalize) Where we (N.Americans/Europeans) do have the advantage is in communication and understanding of our market and the culture. That still counts for something.
  12. In computing/software services this has been going on for years. http://getafreelancer.com/ Jobs get posted as projects, and you compete with bidders from Tuscaloosa and Southeast Asia for the work. Sort of the fleabay of the software job market. Think you can build a basic website for $200? Someone else will do it better, for $35.
  13. Here's another way to look at it. If you've seen Wilco 3 times or less, you should go...because you haven't seen them enough. If you've seen them 10 times or more, you should go...because you're a fanatic and she needs to just accept it. If you've seen the band 4-9 times but have been stymied in many efforts to see them, then you can make an appeal on those grounds. In any other case, forget it...suck it up and plan to go the next time.
  14. That's what I'd do.....tell her now that this would mean a lot to you, that it would be another great memory to cherish from the honeymoon. (not the only memory, obviously...) So this way, if she gives you a lot of static, there's still time left to call the whole thing off. That said, I am the LAST person on earth you should take relationship advice from.
  15. Jack White has an awesome presence, for a nondescript white guy. It's the energy. Speaking of...... --> NELS
  16. I think you can sample the I Will song here. (it's not from last nite's show)
  17. Thanks for the vibes, Vince et al. I am doing ok...it's actually not as bad as it probably sounds. We have to be grateful for health, a job, and food on the table. Take things one day at a time, and.....er, ok I am running out of cliches here. Ya know what I mean though.
  18. Last year I had to sell my motorcycle, all my stereo gear, and 95% of my record collection. And I still ended up in bankruptcy. And losing the house. On top of that I split with my wife 4 weeks ago, and we have 2 kids. So yeah, keep your chin up and quit bitching about your gourmet beer.
  19. I assume that for 2009 most of us will have "Ashes Of American Flags" on our list.............
  20. Audio streams can be saved if you have a capture program. Don't ask me how. It was a great show though.
  21. The Visitor Slumdog Millionaire Tropic Thunder Iron Man Vicky Barcelona Man On Wire Vastly overrated and/or undeserving: Spiderman3, Shrek3, Narnia2, The Dark Knight. I really resent the corporate fuckers who suck my kids in to these atrocities, forcing me to blow $50+ after-tax dollars and waste perfectly good Saturday afternoons on this kind of crap. Even the kids know you can do better, assholes!
  22. I agree with Gimme Shelter, and Honky Tonk Women.... and Revolution, and Diamond Dogs; and Should I Stay Or Should I Go. All great "riff" openers. As far as lead guitar openings, Little Wing, and Cortez The Killer. If we're talking about our favorite band....we have a bunch of really good ones, but no opener gets me pumped like War On War.
