  1. Fuck that shirt might as well read Tweedy the axe murderer.
  2. My brother nearly ended up in Chicago, but he's in Oxford for a few years. So I kid him that it would've been great to be in Wilco's hometown, but since Radiohead are in Oxford, I can see the appeal of living there as well. It's a nice compliment to Wilco, but I don't know how useful the comparison is. Both great bands, and fans of each are already no doubt very aware of the other. You could say they share some arty elements, some melancholy, themes of alienation, etc. But you could say that about a hundred other bands.
  3. I bet Jeff wears the "Sellout" t-shirt he donned for the Toronto show last year.
  4. Essence of Nels, isn't that some kind of cologne? J/K. great pics as usual, Keith.
  5. Keep in mind that after Revolver/Rubber Soul/Sgt Pepper and the white album, the Beatles made Abbey Road and Let it Be.
  6. One of the cool things about YHF is that it was completed before 9/11, yet inadvertantly seems to provide a perfect commentary on the times that followed (2002-03).
  7. I was being ironic. This is a Wilco forum. The may bitch about the band or whatever, but they still like Wilco enough to come back here day after day.
  8. That's still the minority opinion on this forum, but it won't be for long...unless we start banning people.
  9. Have a great time, lucky bastiges. I hope Wilco blows the roof off that place.
  10. Not crazy about Monkey but I like the other two. You have some nice chops on guitar. If you're having fun and learning (and not harming small animals) then keep at it. It's all about the journey, not the destination.
  11. Well, I suppose this thread's good for another 20 pages of banter now.
  12. Did you watch the Lolla broadcast from last weekend? After a few months off they seem to be trying out a number of new things. But yeah, the band seems way too happy. How can anything good come of that?
  13. Or a lack of divine protection. But I think most people would just call it being unlucky. A coincidence of misfortunes. I don't think Ellen was imagining a bunch of young wizards at Hogwarts conjuring up spirits.
  14. You make a great point nodep5. And it's a recurring theme in Tweedy interviews, that the onus is on the listener to connect. The artist already did their part, but the connection isn't there until we make it.
  15. I just read the Kot book, finally, which helps put the Wilco fans cycle into perspective. The irony to me is that ST/YHF/AGIB represent the "new" crop of fans (yeah I'm generalizing)...when these came out they alienated all the people who just wanted Tweedy to sing them "Gun" or "Screen Door". The "new" crop are now the old guard, demanding more of the experimental surprises and god forbid he gives us anything too "direct". For me, SBS only has 4 really direct (plain spoken) songs - Either Way, Please Be Patient, Hate It Here, and Walken. That leaves a bunch of songs that you can still re
  16. Since no one's mentioned them..... I've come back to Marah's Angels several times, and Gary Louris' Vagabonds is in rotation quite often.
  17. Dash 7 would be pretty hard to cover....so I think you guys have moxie, if nothing else.
  18. Maybe there's a broad spread of wasp diversity I missed or something. I don't recall seeing any people of color there. Kind of like a Wilco concert.
  19. +1!!! I'm also partial to Me First And The Gimme Gimmes.
  20. For some reason it works though. Like french fries and mayonnaise.
  21. Anyone else like this? I got to listen to this double CD thoroughly on a recent road trip. Not to turn this into "another Band thread" but I have to say I think the Robbie Robertson with Galactic tune (Going To The River) is the standout track. They basically do two versions of it, one a slower tempo underpinned by drummer Stanton Moore's "big beat shuffle", and then just as you think it's ending, it kicks into a more uptempo version more in the vein of classic Clapton/Cream. Amazing stuff. http://www.amazon.com/Going-To-the-River/dp/B000W107QY Some of the other tracks are only so-so,
  22. I was born late as well, but.... Supertramp in '79 Van Halen in '79 The Who in '79 and '86 (Kenny...no Keith) Rush and Max Webster '79 and '80 Simple Minds in '83 or '84 Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays in '85 Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger in '85 Other shows I saw in Montreal are a little fuzzy....too much hash. I saw Offenbach and UFO in '80 I think, and Rough Trade's final show in '86. I remember another big show vaguely, Cheap Trick maybe. I've seen many others including Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Ray Charles, Bruce Cockburn...but not in their prime.
