5:05 - More Paul Westerberg just released...
solace replied to GtrPlyr's topic in Someone Else's Song
i was able to buy 5:05 for .49 from that link -
not meaning to be "that guy" really, but for me Vampire Weekend was def a 2007 record, because i wore out the Blue CD-R from August of last year through December when the real thing leaked, which only differed by 2 songs. haven't listened to the proper record too much in '08
-
you're just THAT much cooler than all of us apparently.
-
it's pretty good... but it sounds a lot like Rage to be honest Jon Theodore rules tho
-
a little, sure, but they play similiar size venues
-
Hundred Miles Off just found that one meandering and dull. not a fan of that whole calypso vibe. White Rabbits do that way better than the Walkmen. this new one is definitely growing on me, but i just wish it had a rocker or two to pick up the pace on occasion. no real standout hooks for me, just a lilting vibe throughout. it's kinda like what Boxer would be like without Mistaken For Strangers, Brainy, and Squalor Victoria.
-
yeah, they both check it still i believe.

you could try: creaturefear@gmail.com
-
that i can agree with
-
did you miss the point above where i stated it's simply an opinion and not an issue of "right or wrong" like Dr. Canuck was trying to make it out to be? since you claim to be a huge Beatles/Mac fan, curious where Yesterday falls for you. it's always felt more in line with Paul's solo work than the Beatles for me to be perfectly honest.
-
right, but just because everyone and their brother has recorded a cover of it, doesn't mean it's in the Beatles top 10 either even IF i loved Yesterday, i'd still think it's overrated by the general populous
-
o i c, thank you for correcting me Yesterday is one of, if not THE most overrated songs in the entire Beatles catalog, sorry. it's always been way too schmaltzy for me. i'm as big of Beatles fan as they come, and it's definitely not even close to being in my top 50 Beatles songs, no "right or wrong" about it. hell, it's not even close to one of my favorite McCartney tunes either.
-
it's not as great as the first Gleam EP, but still pretty awesome. Emotionalism is decent, but far from my favorite full length of theirs. Mignonette is my favorite easily, then A Carolina Jubilee and Country Was.
-
that isn't really that high of praise.... Yesterday isn't even that great of a song honestly... wouldn't put it in my top 50 Beatles songs, maybe not even top 100...
-
nah, keep trying, it's still got some absolutely killer songs, and is nowhere near a 5.5, more like a solid 7-7.5 imo. i do like We All Belong more (closer to an 8) tho
-
i'm kinda glad honestly... a good Pfork score would have just brought in mostly annoying scenesters/hipsters to Dr. Dog's shows anyway
-
yes. one of the more annoying parts of the album for me :/ that song deserves a better treatment than it got.
-
nah, it was just one big stage w/ all 4 acts after each other, he opened the show at like 5pm or so. was def a great bill tho, we rarely get great/cool outdoor shows like that here, so that was a treat
-
yep... Easy Beat has some total gems and is def worth checking out, the ones earlier than that are a bit hit or miss for me, but still some great songs scattered throughout.
-
the next night wasn't too shabby either
-
he's been re-working a lot of the songs already... i've probably heard 3 or 4 completely different takes on Creature Fear... always the sign of a great artist imo.
-
hmm... guess it depends on the show, because i've seen Justin (Bon Iver) play in front of less than 30 people and as many as 8,000 recently with a bill of Bon Iver > Cloud Cult > New Pornographers > Andrew Bird, and he killed it even in front of that many people outside on a sunny afternoon. of the 10x i've seen him now, only 2 or 3 have been just average, rest have been stunning
-
they've already played there 2 or 3 times this year though, and they're not canceling them, just postponing them a month this new album has already propped up their visibility quite a bit
-
eh, while it sucks, it's only delaying their tour by a few days, hardly a nail in the coffin type event
