I blame Ryan o'Neal.

The categories have been the same since 2001, when they added Best Animated Feature. The only award that's been cut recently was Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, which only lasted from 95-99. Otherwise, the awards have been the same for several decades.

Farrah Fawcett was a TV star. Were they supposed to show a montage of Cannonball Run and Logan's Run?

Went to hawks nucks game last night. Fun game. Saw Vince Vaughn.

Well I'll be a kissmygotohell!

For the best seats?

That's a pretty standard rate nowadays for a stadium show, no?

I'll take Swiss Curling for 500, Alex.

My wife is a fan of Project Runway, and so she rented "11 minutes", which document Jay McSomething (Season 1 winner) putting on a fashion show. Anyway, I stuck around long enough to watch the previews, and saw one for a movie about Salvador Dali. I was intrigued, until I realized that Dali was being played by Robert Twilight Pattinson. Are you fucking KIDDING ME???

I didn't think there was an arc to DDL's character - started out greedy and nuts, and ended up greedy and nuts. The only change was the wealth that he accumulated. I loved his John Huston accent though. But, for a better John Huston, watch Clint in White Hunter Black Heart - a very underrated film. But No Country? The visual storytelling in that movie is so well done that you could follow it with the sound off. This essay really nails it for me. Don't get me wrong - I think that There Will be Blood was a great movie as well - it just didn't hold me like No Country did.

maybe that's why he isn't answering?

I loved Aviator - because to me, it really tells the tale of Scorsese's own Hollywood story. He's always been a maverick and outsider, so to me, the Aviator was a big fuck you to Hollywood. Besides that, you had the art direction with the different color palettes to coincide with the timeline which was pure genius. It's a simple enough concept, but it hadn't been done before to my knowledge. Scorsese's best, like you said, have a grittiness, but also, they all have one other unique thing in common, which most other filmmakers (and Hollywood) are loathe to go near: An antisocial protagonist,

It IS great. She's got nice tits. Rachel getting married followed havoc.

"I need to do an edgy role that will prevent me from being forever typecast as Miss Princess Diaries". Can of corn.

Very psyched for Gorillaz next week.

I don't know if the networks own the footage, as much as they own the rights to broadcast them. It's got to be a complex contract between the IOC and whatever nation's networks to redistribute the footage.

Watched Revanche this weekend. Very haunting film. Everything about it seems so simple, but I can't stop thinking about it. Has anyone else seen it? It's a pretty recent release on DVD. It was a foreign language Oscar nom last year.

I suppose. Parise too. And Miller.

Great game and congrats to Canada. Proud of the USA youngsters for making it as far as they did. There aren't too many guys on the US team who would have made the Canada roster (if any!).

Wholly Flock, USA up 6-0 and it's still in the 1st period.

I always thought it strange that all the cops knew all the lyrics to an obscure song (Body of an American) by an arguably obscure band (Pogues) which apparently was ingrained enough in their culture to sing at all the cops' wakes.

Wow, an Ovie hater? Who are you, Sidney Crosby?

I, on the other hand, am very thrilled. Have never seen ZZ Top, and after seeing that sweet live vid that A-man posted a while back in the youtube thread, I am psyched. Nice double-bill.
