  1. The simple answer: Solar Energy The not so simple answer: Battery capacity/technology isn't where it needs to be to make this a viable solution yet, but it's getting there. Solar energy technology, in its current state, is sufficient enough to take every house out there off the grid. The problem is that it's still expensive to do so in the short term. To power a nation would require vast solar energy panel fields in places like utah/arizona/new mexico, and the irony is that there are environmental activists against such fields because they would ruin the landscape! The truth is that the
  2. I'd say there are no beatlesque Wilco albums. At. All.
  3. Matthew Stafford, now you're a MAN. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf2LfAjhsvE
  4. Just started "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge, in anticipation of HBO's The Pacific.
  5. When the occasion calls for it, I love Chimay - any one of their labels. In a bar, I will typically order a Guinness, unless I have reason to believe it's not ordered very much there or the lines aren't clean. If it's a dive bar, then it's either Schlitz or High Life for me, both of which I think are fine for slumming. On Saturday I will be requested to top my feat from last year's Thanksgiving weekend: 3 pints of Guinness in 27 seconds. (The original challenge was to put down 3 pints in a minute, no puking for 30 minutes after). I collected $500 for that one! This year the challenge will be
  6. I get my climate views from fancypants like Lord Lawson of Blaby.
  7. Yes to Linda Ronstadt and Linda Thompson, but not Linda McCartney, nor Belinda Carlisle.
  8. That's one kick-ass party. Dylan's wig is sick (sick = disgusting, not wicket cool) I wonder why they didn't include David Hidalgo in the video as the accordion player?
  9. The parking-the-car quote was after the "Unledded" acoustic show that Page and Plant did on MTV the year before the HOF induction ceremony. Jones was miffed that he was never contacted.
  10. Yeah, with the Kinks Choral album coming out (or is it already out?), and with a choir on the slate, it's not looking good for your show tonight. I on the other hand, will be enjoying John Fogerty live tonight.
  11. I just want to throw Damon Albarn's name onto the list. Between composing sountracks, Gorillaz, The Good The Bad & The Queen, and late Blur material (plus reuniting for recent live shows) - he's had a tremendous decade.
  12. When I was in 7th grade (82-83), I was obsessed with X's cover of Breathless, which was played on the local community college's radio station. I think I called in to request it every other night for a couple months. That obsession led to discovering their older releases, and also led to Los Lobos and The Blasters.
  13. I would swap Talking Heads' "The name of this band is" for "Stop Making Sense" Also - Zappa's You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol II is a killer concert recording. (Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life and Make a Jazz Noise Here also deserve mention.) There's also several "__________ live at the BBC" albums that weren't listed: Beatles, Kinks, Bowie, Hendrix, Zeppelin, XTC...
  14. One plays Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, the other plays Joan Holloway in Mad Men.
  15. Strange, I thought I was listing 5 celebrities for MY des(s)ert island, not yours.
  16. Salma Hayek Penelope Cruz Eva Green Scarlett Johansson Christina Hendricks
  17. I loved the show when it ran, but I haven't seen it since then. I'm curious to see how it's aged. Stiller was good on the Curb your Enthusiasm too, but he played the same role as always: ticking time bomb.
  18. dammit. So, is someone going to start the "only 5GB of harddrive space on a deserted island" thread?
  19. That fits on 1 CD? Clash - London Calling Beatles - White Album Los Lobos - Kiko Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God Gorillaz v Spacemonkeyz - Laika come home
  20. Bring back the variety show, like Donny and Marie.
  21. We may want to ask George how his back is feeling lately? From Wikipedia:
  22. ah so. Carry on then. So, shouldn't we be celebrating that we're in the top quartile? Or that we're better than Cuba?
  23. Is the reality check that I should look for more recent stats than ones from the year 2000?
  24. TCV is streaming their new album on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ6arQ-qK34&feature=SeriesPlayList&p=FCC1368DF9BDE312
  25. Not to mention the ref and two line judges. How is it possible they missed every one of those? I think the offender got one yellow card out of all that. I realize that some of those happened away from the play, but the last one - in which she delivers a double chop to the chest while going for the ball, should have been seen by all 3 officials. If none of them saw that, they're incompetent, and if one of them saw it and didn't hand out a yellow, same conclusion.
