  1. Hmm. Seems spurious. Why are you "wowed" about never having played songs from those latter albums? You know they stopped touring in 1966, right? Basically, the only other live appearance they made was on the Apple Rooftop in 1969, and that was a short set consisting of several takes of Get Back and a couple other songs.
  2. When did they play When I'm 64? I'm doubtful that the version of All You Need is Love (for the world broadcast) was "live."
  3. 1. John Coltrane Quartet, Part 1: Acknowledgement. 7:43 2. John Coltrane Quartet, Part 2: Resolution. 7:20 3. John Coltrane Quartet, Part 3: Pursuance, 10:42 4. John Coltrane Quartet, Part 4: Psalm, 7:05
  4. Definitely heard Aretha's Respect before I heard Otis Redding's
  5. Poor Poor Pitiful Me. Heard Linda Ronstadt's version before Warren Zevon's original. Heard the Doors' Gloria before I heard Them's version.
  6. You're racking up the points on this thread. Nice one. DMR's version of that song was my first listen too. Sweet Thing - as done by The Waterboys, before I heard Van Mo's version. And to hand the baton to Van, I have never heard the original of Baby Please Don't Go - originally done by Big Joe Williams in 1936. I've heard it done by Them, and Amboy Dukes, AC/DC, and others.
  7. ahhhh frisbee. I miss having my frisbee pallies around. Can't wait for my kiddos to be old enough to have a good round of catch. Two rules: keep it clean (make a good throw, and make a good catch), and ONE HANDED ONLY.
  8. I annoy my wife by singing in loud baritone: ONCE, THERE WAS THIS KID WHO...
  9. Well, he's definitely getting someone who isn't better than the people who voted for him. CHECK.
  10. What a strange notion. Isn't a leader, by definition, someone who you would want to "act better" (I'm not sure what that means - in a play? on the playground? Is Obama uppity?) than the plebs whom he leads?
  11. That statement seems to be sensationalistic and a crude exaggeration. If only there were a term to encapsulate that notion... Hmm. Yellow Journalism? If good journalism survived the period of yellow journalism in the late 19th century, it will survive the Trump presidency. Let's not be so quick to announce journalism's demise.
  12. I first heard In The Street when I listened to Box Full of Letters.
  13. Yes, definitely heard her cover of that one first. Now I'm also wondering about Crimson and Clover...
  14. I saw Petty two nights in a row at Summerfest in Milwaukee maybe 5 or 6 years ago. The first night was great - first time I'd seen them live. The 2nd night was a carbon copy of the first, and so I was less impressed. No changes to the setlist, and no spontaneity whatsoever.
  15. I'm trying to figure out if I heard Everyday People as done by Joan Jett before the Sly version. God I hope not.
  16. Happy 100th birthday to Kirk Douglas. Here he is on the Brooke Shields show:
