  1. They've got one of those "bike station" thingys: https://secure.niceridemn.org/map/
  2. Definitely check out First Ave / 7th St Entry. That's right there. Across the Hennepin Ave bridge and a little up University Ave is Emily's Lebanese Deli. Great Place. A little further than that is Anchor fish-n-chips. Heavenly. Edit: Ha, I see I recommended Emily's when this thread originated. Dang, I miss that place. The Lebanese Chicken & Rice is divine, and they have the best tabouli I've ever had. If you're staying downtown mostly, Brit's is a nice bar, with lawn bowling.

  4. Yeah - a nearby grocery store will (irregularly) have 12ers of Saga for $13.50. Not a bad price, considering the cheapest craft 6er I can find goes for $7.99. Summit 6ers go for $8.99 round these parts. Bought a case of Sierra Nevada "Nooner" Pale Lager at Costco for $21.99. A very nice summer beer.
  5. I emailed them once. Never got a response. I also emailed Summit to ask them why their Extra Pale Ale is so hard to find in the Chicago area. They said they were switching distributors, and that the problem should be rectified soon. That was a year ago, the problem still exists. Nuts.
  6. Three Cheers for the Waco Brothers! My favorite current live act.
  7. I thought the first season was great. I lost interest during season 2, and only made it a couple episodes into season 3.
  8. Hoping someone can explain this to me... At the Half Acre store (I used to live nearby), you can get a 4-pack of 16 oz cans for $8 or $9. 64oz total. To get the same beer in a growler refill (which is also 64 oz, and now you are providing the container), it's $12. Why is it 50% more expensive to purchase the same amount of beer when the consumer is providing the container?
  9. Them Crooked Vultures was pretty great. Haven't seen JP or RP though...
  10. Been listening to the May 7, '72 Bickershaw Fest show today, and I spent some time looking up any articles about the fest. Both Elvis Costello and Joe Strummer were in the crowd, and apparently Elvis was very inspired by the Dead. Captain Beefheart also played the festival, and I found this hilarious diary of one LSD-addled attendee: http://www.beefheart.com/through-the-loophole-by-charles-gee/
  11. Love it. I'm currently at a conference/boondoggle in Lake Geneva WI, so I've been thinking about D&D. (Where Gary Gygax is from, and where the initial D&D production company was from). Gygax is my wife's first cousin, twice removed (her grandma's first cousin). I recall spending more time/enjoying creating new characters than actually playing the game. Nobody in my clique really understood how to be an effective dungeon master. But we all loved pouring over the monster manual.
  12. Nah. There's too much for me to ever get to, and I love it all.
  13. I rented that over the weekend - seemed amateurishly put together - like most of the interview footage was filmed years ago, but only recently put together? The Carol Kaye parts were great, but overall the doc seemed to lack a narrative story. I got bored.

  17. And here's a sample of the writing that Chester Anderson did - as referred to in the Garcia interview above: http://www.diggers.org/comco/ccpaps2b.html
  18. Old interview with Garcia, from Rolling Stone, Jan. 1972: http://www.jannswenner.com/archives/jerry_garcia_part1.aspx This quote really struck me: (regarding the San Fran scene) - seems that you could apply that to the post Touch of Grey world. The whole thing could happen, but I think the fact that it got desperate – in the sense that economics started to drive everything out, that it was the drawing power formula that worked, those kind of realities, business world realities – and the thing ultimately turned into a merchandising trip. A Show-Biz trip. That wrecked it. That wrecked it
  19. looking forward to seeing this: http://pitchfork.com/news/58807-damned-documentary-features-ian-mackaye-mick-jones-lemmy-fred-armisen-chrissie-hynde-more/ Why is Fred Armisen in it though?
