Spanish Stroll - Mink De Ville. Great song but : Little Johnny - he caught a plane And he got on it Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy. Tonight there's going to be a Jailbreak somewhere in this town. Really? Let me hazard a guess where. At the jail perchance?

RIP Doug.. Here's a funny/sad tribute by Aussie journalist Jack Marx: http://blogs.news.com.au/jackmarxlive/index.php/news/comments/my_sharona/ Interesting to learn that Sharona Alperin (yep that Sharona)is now a realty agent in California with her own website - with 'My Sharona' playing as background music! http://www.mysharona.com/index.htm

What Beatles song would you most like to see Wilco cover??
Plumplechook replied to jdmel's topic in Just A Fan
"I Should Have Known Better". Jeff would kill on Lennon's harmonica riff. And I insist on them wearing Beatles suits circa '64 for the performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d3k3Y2qkwo -
I love The Who - but here in Australia the sound was way out of synch on the half-time broadcast. Kinda runined it - which was a real shame. Any synch problems on US TV?

Alas, won't be anyone from Wilco as they are playing the second gig of their West Coast tour in Portland next Tuesday.

fewest people at a gig with a name act

Read an interview with Tim Finn from Split Enz talking about one of their early tours of the US where they found themselves playing to four people in some venue in Atlanta. At some point he addressed the audience: "Is everyone having a good time?!" - no response - "well we are, and the majority rules". -
Looks like OxfamAmerica have just released a promo video of the Johnny Marr/Jeff Tweedy song 'Too Blue' (from the 7 Worlds Collide project) as part of its fundraising efforts for the Haiti earthquake. Spot the Wilco boys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSDig28w56k

Here's a link to the earlier thread discussing the Chris Knox tribute/charity album. Includes the full tracklisting. Great album. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/42337-chris-knox/ -
Is this the same category that SBS got nominated in ('Americana')?

Band Names That Make You Uncomfortable
Plumplechook replied to So Long's topic in Someone Else's Song
Closed For Private Function (more confusing than uncomfortable - I mean are they playing here tonight or is this venue actually closed for some kid's 21st?) -
Wow - that's a nice virtual tour of the Civic theatre. Hate to show my age - but the last gig I went to there was Jethro Tull in 1974 (the War Child tour). It was a nice venue then - and looks even better now.

Chris Knox is a icon of the NZ indie music scene. It's great the way local and international musisicians have lent their support with this fantastic tribute/benefit album. See full track listing below. There was also a touching tribute paid at the Pearl Jam concert here in Auckland last Friday night when Neil and Liam Finn joined Eddie Vedder on stage during the encore for a performance of the Chris Knox classic 'Not Given Lightly'. A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe
Plumplechook replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
Daniel Lanois is the kiss of death on any album he produces. There isn't an album he been involved with that wouldn't be better off without his ponderous trademark washes of synth and keyboards. -
Great they are coming back to Australia - but pissed off they aren't bothering to play any New Zealand dates this time around. Was really looking foward to seeing them in Auckland and Wellington again. Guess they feel that playing those 7 Worlds Collide shows in Auckland earlier this year filled their NZ qouta for the time being.

Yep - and I noticed they played 'Deeper Down' which features the immortal line 'Higher than a Dutch dope high". -
Where the hell is 'The J Giels Band - Live Full House'? Best live album ever.

Erik, interested in how you arrive at such a lowly rank for W(TA) when in an another thread today ('Of canons and being comfortable') you say: Just asking...

Slightly off topic... but I've always thought 'Meconium' would be an awesome name for a heavy metal band, pararticularly if they were kinda crappy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meconium
