  1. The Cinema of Inappropriate Laughter presents 'The English Patient':
  2. Alas, won't be anyone from Wilco as they are playing the second gig of their West Coast tour in Portland next Tuesday.
  3. Read an interview with Tim Finn from Split Enz talking about one of their early tours of the US where they found themselves playing to four people in some venue in Atlanta. At some point he addressed the audience: "Is everyone having a good time?!" - no response - "well we are, and the majority rules".
  4. Looks like OxfamAmerica have just released a promo video of the Johnny Marr/Jeff Tweedy song 'Too Blue' (from the 7 Worlds Collide project) as part of its fundraising efforts for the Haiti earthquake. Spot the Wilco boys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSDig28w56k

  6. A great year for concerts here in Sydney Australia last year. My highlights: The Who - Hope Estate Winery (Hunter Valley). March Neil Young - Sydney Entertainment Center. 7. Here's a link to the earlier thread discussing the Chris Knox tribute/charity album. Includes the full tracklisting. Great album. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/42337-chris-knox/
  8. Is this the same category that SBS got nominated in ('Americana')?
  9. Closed For Private Function (more confusing than uncomfortable - I mean are they playing here tonight or is this venue actually closed for some kid's 21st?)

    NZ Dates

Wow - that's a nice virtual tour of the Civic theatre. Hate to show my age - but the last gig I went to there was Jethro Tull in 1974 (the War Child tour). It was a nice venue then - and looks even better now.
  11. Chris Knox is a icon of the NZ indie music scene. It's great the way local and international musisicians have lent their support with this fantastic tribute/benefit album. See full track listing below. There was also a touching tribute paid at the Pearl Jam concert here in Auckland last Friday night when Neil and Liam Finn joined Eddie Vedder on stage during the encore for a performance of the Chris Knox classic 'Not Given Lightly'. 12. Daniel Lanois is the kiss of death on any album he produces. There isn't an album he been involved with that wouldn't be better off without his ponderous trademark washes of synth and keyboards.
  13. Great they are coming back to Australia - but pissed off they aren't bothering to play any New Zealand dates this time around. Was really looking foward to seeing them in Auckland and Wellington again. Guess they feel that playing those 7 Worlds Collide shows in Auckland earlier this year filled their NZ qouta for the time being.
  14. Yep - and I noticed they played 'Deeper Down' which features the immortal line 'Higher than a Dutch dope high".
  15. Where the hell is 'The J Giels Band - Live Full House'? Best live album ever.
  16. Erik, interested in how you arrive at such a lowly rank for W(TA) when in an another thread today ('Of canons and being comfortable') you say: Just asking...
  17. Slightly off topic... but I've always thought 'Meconium' would be an awesome name for a heavy metal band, pararticularly if they were kinda crappy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meconium
  18. Neil Finn - Driving Me Mad (a song about song-writers block) Deadlines again Feel like hiding out No sign of comfort yet Have a nap while no ones looking Bring some inspiration to the man In my head A namesake out of reach Strange days upon us now we leave the dust of conversation Hanging in the light above the bed....
  19. Agreed. It's preposterous to demand personal space along with exclusive territorial rights to a section of floor space at a general admission concert - no matter how big a fan you are of the performers.
  20. Great album. Certainly in my top 5 list for this year so far.
  21. Great album. The Wilco contribution to this project can't be underestimated. I like all the Wilco members individual songs. Jeff's 'What Could Have Been' is a real grower. Low key - but with an interesting arrangement that layers up nicely. John Stirratt's 'Over and Done' is an alt-country gem. Glenn Kotche and Phil Selway collaborate on '3 Worlds Collide', a tribal percussion fest that works well in this context. The real surprise for me was Pat Sansone's 'Don't Forget Me' - it's one of my favourite tracks on the album and features some great guitar by Johnny Marr. As
