Yeah, this one seems to be hitting it's stride pretty quickly. I am a big fan of Amy Poehler which helps.

Saw this film last night and it is brutal. The power that a company like Monsanto has is frightening. The ever increasing drive for profit over all else to the point of sacrificing the health of the consumer is nothing short of evil. Other than to shop locally and really research your purchases, it's very tough to know what to do. You think you are buying the right products only to find out that really, Tyson or Monsanto or whoever actually owns it anyways. We are very fortunate in that we have some great little local farmers markets.

I heard from various people that The Elder is under rated and quite good. I'll give creatures a shot.

I think Dynasty was the last one I bought. Kind of the beginning of the end for me. I have to admit I have not really given any later albums a chance.

Accordian, Mandolin, and fiddle, awesome. Thanks, that brought a huge smile to my face!

I'm a few spins threw this and I am really liking it. Although it mostly sounds like a Queens of the Stone Age album, there are snippets where the other band members personalities shine through. For example that keyboard part that comes in during "Scumbag blues" is right out of "Trampled Underfoot". I think what I like most so far is this album Rawks without being like Mastodon type metal. It's the perfect antidote if you have been listening to too much Fleet Foxes or Bon Iver and want something heavy.

Your favorite 80's American "college rock" band

I went with REM only because I listened to them back then. I didn't "discover" the Mats until later. -
Yeah, I wondered about #4 myself but Gene seemed pretty convinced and said "Ask Bob". I did not get the impression he was joking but who knows.

Can I assume this Elissa is the one that inspired: You talk about things that nobody cares Wearing other things that nobody wears You're callin' my name but I gotta make clear I can't say baby where I'll be in a year Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent Said my get up and go musta got up and went Well I got good news, she's a real good liar Cause the backstage groove'll set your pants on fire And so on...

I would love to check this out, and great cover. I'm interested in where the name for the band came from? Do you tour around the country?

This. Witness "Religulous" which was also patronizing (even to those of us who agreed and enjoyed the movie). Dennet seems much less patronizing but he does it by very complex scientific arguments.

Me too finally.

Things I learned reading the Gene Simmons article in the new MOJO: 1. Gene and Paul are planning to release the original "Wicked Lester" album. 2. Gene once wrote a song with Bob Dylan called "Waiting for the morning light". 3. Gene once wrote a song with Lou Reed called "A world without heroes". 4. According to Gene, Kiss was the inspiration for Dylan's white makeup during the Rolling Thunder Review, apparently he dated Bob's Violin Player.

So you sorted alphabetically and not autobiographically? And thanks to everyone who answered PopTodd's questions for me.

Wow, the end to that Nuggets-Bulls game was crazy. Fortunately in my unbiased opinion, the refs made the right call.

I had a history professor in College that just drilled it into us almost daily that if you do nothing else in life, you must visit Machu Picchu. I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you end up going!

Just ordered this beast so I really hope the CD is not dead.

Cheap Trick > Aerosmith (my opinion only obviously) at least as far as who I listen to more nowadays. God help me I loved Aerosmith when I was in my early teens though. The one thing all these 30+ year bands have in common is phases of bad music, decades in some cases. I really don't listen to anything from Aerosmith or Cheap Trick past 1979.

Well that's a bummer but thanks for the heads up.

Anybody have it? I have only heard what's on myspace but it sounds good.

I just watched "Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's" over the weekend and I have to say, there is nobody better than Jeff Beck on a good night. They flashed to Jimmy Page sitting in the audience at one point and he had a huge smile on his face, I think it was during Beck's unreal version of A Day in the LIfe. He was not a big influence on my playing so I would not say he was my favorite guitar player, but there really is nobody else that sounds remotely like him. He's just mind blowingly good. On another note, his bass player Tal Wilkenfield is a freak of nature. No tiny 22 year old girl

I still buy tons of CD's. I do most of my listening in the car or on a stereos, not at my computer or Ipod. Plus with all the upgrading and crashing and whatever I just don't trust that the electronic files will last. Won't be long and Amazon will really be the only place to buy physical copies. Borders, Best Buy, etc... keep shrinking the CD section and don't really offer anything outside the mainstream. The independents keep dying.
