  1. I hear what you are saying. There is just a certain consistency of mood and sound I am liking. And a cool story line as well. I like that Robyn Hitchcock plays on it and Jim James makes a very brief appearance too. I think there are some great melodies on here. When the dead children start singing it creeps me out. Who knows, maybe the fact that I listened to the new Mastodon before this one made a difference!
  2. I have to say, I think this is their best record so far. There some songs on there that would not be out of place on a Black Keys album. I'm really liking it. One thing I noticed, he sure likes using the word "boughs" in songs.
  3. Great album. According to Amazon, people that bough Hold Steady also bought the new Decemberists which I'm also currently listening to. I'm so predictable.
  4. I had a friend from high school that became a cop. He pretty much abandoned all his non police friends. I think in many cases they just become so insulated in that world where it's an "Us (police) and them (everyone else)" attitude. Not trying to paint this with a broad brush, just an observation from experience. Obviously this does not apply to all police.
  5. Finally giving this one a spin.
  6. Living on a thin line is on the list but I have to think about the next 19! Thanks for the reminder, I have not pulled out the kinks in awhile!
  7. Wow, that annoying Adam guy cleaned himself up, I hardly recognized him. Looks like a young Elvis or something.
  8. Accelerate is no Murmur but hell, I like it. I don't know that I would call it fake rock. I would be quite proud to write a song like "Living well is the best revenge".
  9. "Puff the magic dragon". Or was that song really about smoking pot?
  10. I don't remember a day when Huey Lewis was "super cool".

    Wilco DVD

I'll see you there, just picked up my tickets at Boulder Theatre yesterday. Can't wait!
  12. I drive my wife crazy pointing out little parts of songs, a certain drum snap or little riff or whatever. I will have to give it some thought. One thing that always gives me chills is the way Merry Clayton's voice cracks on the "Rape, Murder" in Gimme Shelter. John Lennons falsetto at the end of "In my life".
  13. So Neko Case is playing the same night as Lucero and it just happens to be on my birthday. Which one should I go see? Anybody have experience seeing either of them live?
  14. I'm going with "Smell the glove".
  15. So many Beatles work but that might be the best. His falsetto at the end just tears me up every time.
  16. Awesome. How about this kid. Here's hoping he goes to the Rockies, 20 years old and hitting 101MPH Strasburg
  17. One of these albums does not belong... Just kidding. I love your hugely wide taste in music. Reminds me of myself. I like pretty much everything.
  18. A few points of contention: "All you sad and lost apostles, hum my name and flare your nostrils"... "Living well is the best revenge" is a fantastic song and there are other great ones on Accelerate. Not sure "Driver 8" is under rated just because this person like it. Great song but also one of their bigger hits. "Sitting Still" is one of their best songs, I will agree on that. So. Central still kicks ass and fits just fine on Reckoning. "It's the end of the world" is a far ass cry from "We didn't start the fire". He should be ashamed even comparing them. So there.
  19. Pat looks like Dennis Wilson in that picture.
