  1. turntable.fm, not last.fm i think it's pretty fun. but getting in the right room is key.
  2. i think there are proxys around that? but yeah...it's a US thing i think. hey, we can't get Spotify...
  3. i didn't see that on the program schedule.
  4. i was thinking about pavement but GBV took that particular niche for me.
  5. my alternate top 10, based on personal preference and perceived influence (in no particular order...can't be arsed to spend too much time thinking about it)...for this list i am not putting in 'person x and y band' like springsteen or petty...pretty arbitrary decision i know... jefferson airplane sonic youth byrds black flag REM nirvana funkadelic/parliament stooges CCR guided by voices
  6. they put out some great records but #2? yeesh, their output since say, Permanent Vacation was awful, and I'm being kind w/ that end point.
  7. man, what another great weekend. i have had the photos done for a while but immediately went on vacation after the fest and just finished my review. there are a few interviews that will be forthcoming too, but in the meantime here's the main review and photos: http://www.bigtakeover.com/concerts/solid-sound-festival-curated-by-wilco-mass-moca-north-adams-ma-june-24-26-2011 if there's one photo that sums up the weekend, it might be this one i was afraid of my gear dying in the rain, not to mention the loads of droplets on the front lens element, but sometimes you luck out. i put
  8. the doors and eagles at 12 and 13 makes me cringe.
  9. i'd heard the new stuff was taken down, and assumed it was Wilco's wishes (after all, there were plenty of 'please don't videotape' signs scattered around...weird that Warners is involved.
  10. the new Thurston Moore record is ridiculously beautiful.
  11. assuming you liked the previous Vile records, how could the new one stack up as a disappointment? if anything, his songwriting's gotten stronger. i really love "on tour' and "runners up" there are a few really great records so far this year. i like: blood ceremony - living with the ancients grails - deep politics vile - smoke ring alvarius b - baroque primitiva mogwai - hardcore will never die but you will lifeguards (r pollard and d gillard) - waving at the astronauts
  12. i should be up in NH, on vacation lakeside w/ my family...but, i spent all of today going through not only the 2500 photos i took over the weekend, but clearing the backlog of photos from the last two weeks of other shows, and writing reviews. that's done, but not my SSF review. that can wait a bit, i suppose. for now, here are some assorted photos of the weekend for yr viewing pleasure... day 2 and 3 photos coming soon to a Via Chicago website near you.
  13. at first i was convinced it was the dude from Gogol Bordello.
  14. the interview didn't quite work but i give 'em props for trying something new. here's my review and photos http://www.prefixmag.com/photos/dinosaur-jr-henry-rollins-off-the-paradise-boston-/ dino photos up on my site in a bit.
  15. they definitely didn't bring enough 22oz bottles of WTF to Solid Sound, and the stuff ended up selling out within the 1st hour or so of days 1 and 2, and there was none for day 3. they even sold out of the IPA on day 3, and even Goose Island had no more IPA left. at least i got a couple of free pints of WTF when i was in the lounge area doing a couple of band interviews.
  16. absolutely! i put up some unedited shots in this thread and i just got home to start looking at the rest of them. i have a lot! thank god for cheap hard drives.
  17. Syl's set was really fun but got cut by 20 min. I was kinda hoping they would have him play on Sunday since there is no opener before levon and let wilco have their whole time slot. But it worked out well anyway.
  18. some very quick (ie, no edits) photos from yesterday...cameras are still working, so that's a plus. i was worried, to be honest. heaviest rain i've shot in by far photos of day 1
  19. excellent. Steve MacDonald rocked out last night w/ OFF!
  20. the scuttlebutt is that someone pulled a permit for a 3 day stretch at Fenway for a concert, and pearl jam is the prime suspect.
