  1. 1.a. Who is your favorite American band/solo act/ensemble/dance troupe/whatever label applies that is currently "active" (meaning - still making records or still touring)? Sonic Youth 2. Who are in your top 10 all time? Sonic Youth X Dinosaur Jr Sun City Girls Stooges Wilco Guided By Voices Pavement Tar Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 3. In your top 10 all time, all world list, how many are American? (I've discovered my tastes definitely lean towards England). sorry,i missed that question 2 wasn't just isolated to US bands, which is how i answered it, top 10 non-US bands would inc
  2. i haven't had time to open the plastic wrap yet...maybe tonight.
  3. nice shots. this one and the Nels one leaning back w/ the light mostly on his face are my faves. btw for clarification, Fighting Tinnitus is not a subsidiary of tinnitus photography i am kinda bummed to hear that shooters were staged at the wings of the stage edge...had i known that, i would have put in for the show. I did ask the PR rep for shooting restriction clarifications but never heard back, unfortunately. what was the general vibe like on the floor? were people standing much of the time? the balcony was reserved...people didn't stand until the encore, and even then it was not a
  4. sorry for getting so close to the Sex Nap/lawyer bickering, but I guess i interpreted this the wrong way agreed w/ the other post, that curfew is mostly influenced by stage hand/labor unions and OT...and for Comcast/BofA, possibly noise ordinances due to the open nature of the venue. maybe, but i don't know...i busted my ass to fight through Boston traffic, park, and get to the venue in time so we could get a wrist band before 6:15 and then eat a leisurely dinner somewhere w/ our tickets in our pockets. moving this up 45 min would have made that plan untenable, and i didn't feel li
  5. the 11PM curfew really has nothing to do w/ Emerson. other theatres/outside venues have this too (Orpheum, Wilbur, Comcast, Bank of America, etc).
  6. i thought it was fine, but i was in the 5th row of the balcony.
  7. what an incredible opening song last night...sorry if that's a spoiler (though it seemed an obvious choice to me).
  8. i didn't bother putting in for the show, since the restrictions at that venue are pretty ridiculous. they make you shoot from one spot, either at the back of the building or far on one wing, and then you have to leave and stow your gear. i shot there once (The Pixies) and won't do it again...i missed 4 songs in the interim of dropping my gear at my car and getting back to my seat. and i had to rent a long lens as well. though the lights were pretty damned good. i kinda wished i had a camera from where i was sitting (center balcony, 1st row).
  9. picked up my copy of the LP tonight. wanted to get a poster for a friend but it was sold out after the show.
  10. Handshake Drugs > Impossible Germany was the killer. great show.
  11. hopefully i get approved for this show in Boston this saturday. the show i caught @ House of Blues two years ago was a lot of fun.
  12. me. please keep up on the more salient posts in this thread.
  13. i've heard Howe Gelb referred to as a poet, but never a polemicist.

  15. i talked w/ John after the Orpheum show last year..he and Pat came into bar we were at (Silvertone) after the show. very pleasant. I also talked w/ Jeff briefly this year when i ran into him and his sons @ the Moog exhibit at SSF. thanked him for inviting Rick Bishop last year as well as for getting two SSFs off the ground, and he was cordial.
  16. some random ones: robert pollard [gbv] - solid, midwest dude. loves to drink and have fun. what's not to like? buzz osbourne [melvins] - funny as hell. sharp, sharp sense of wit. wasn't mean, though. jon spencer - mentioned i went to college w/ him, his wife (christina martinez) laughed. very nice, well-mannered. henry rollins - straightforward, as you'd expect al cisneros [om, sleep] - soft spoken, thoughful, somewhat reserved lou barlow [sebadoh, dinosaur] - over his petulant phase, by far. friendly, outgoing. david lowery [cracker/camper van] - wasn't really interested in talking...david
  17. no. the fact that you wear pink tutus in an unironic fashion makes you cool.
  18. 8 records in for GBV was arguably my favorite, _Alien Lanes_...and he'd go on to make 8 more GBV records, and then a few dozen LPs under his name or other projects. and for anyone who's listened to Boston Spaceships, it's clear that he is still cranking out high quality stuff.
  19. this was a FLAC of the "I Might" single...
